  1. We headed up to ski Ellinor yesterday 4/17. Bottomed out the VW Golf @ 1500'. There was 10" of new. At least one other vehicle had made it higher than we did, but unfortunately we had to turn around. There was also new snow on the shores of Lake Cushman. Quite the mid april storm.
  2. Ordered my copy last night. Got the ecopy and the hard copy is on it's way. Damn fine job Joe! We are headed north in a month and some of the info is really outstanding. Thanks.
  3. Good luck man, We climbed that route last summer. The Canadian map worked great for us. Watch for Snaffle trails on the descent and prepare for a pounding on the way down. The trail is longer than one might imagine. The climbing is ok, but the position and views are incredible.
  4. OK, so it sounds silly to actually use another rope to belay a person rappin' but I'm pretty sure that's what the BSA is asking for. It's simple to rig but it does add more confusion and equipment that can help you out when Timmy absolutely freaks and dives for the anchor completely fogetting what a 'brake hand' might be. I think that the scouts are looking for minimal risk exposure. I'd suggest using another belay line for the first few times the scouts rap and then possibly move to a fireman's when they are more comfortable. Also remember that they are asking for you to belay every rap, not back up every rap. Have a good time at camp.
  5. You know I think I've read something in the news about adding land to the park. Sounds great right? But I'm pretty sure that the addition in question is the Carbon RIver Rd. itself. It seems to me that the plan is to put the road all in the park, declare it wilderness and alakazam- No more road mantainence on the north side. Seems a little like fishy to me. Hopefully someone out there has a little more insight on the topic.
  6. Headed out through Horseshoe Basin in the far eastern Pasayten, going to check out Teapot dome, Bauerman ridge area. Does anyone out there have more specifics or topos for the area? Doorish a little help?
  7. If you look around you can score old rental plastic boots that have great soles but crappy liners ($50) Searcha around for some clearance thermofit liners ($50) score some superfeet insoles and you have a bomber, warm, wonderful set up. Mine are Degre shells, pink Raichle ski boot liners (which I trimmed and had velcro ankle straps put on for $5 at the local shoe repair) and the superfeet out of my ski boots. It's a great sytem that was cheap ($110). I bought a size that was a half size smaller than my street shoe, but only because they had the best soles. Most shells only change size on the whole size. (i.e. 9 and 9.5 boots have the same shell size.) So I think Twight is refering to getting a shell that will fit well with a custom thermomoldable liner.
  8. Thanks Off, I shot Joe an email, hopefully I'll hear back soon. ps nice palendrome.

Damn do I miss the close crags, sunshine, rivers, close skiing and open spaces in the Kan. Where I am on the wet side, the closest skiing, 1.5 hrs drive. The closest crag, 1.5 hrs. ...but Rainier 1.5 hrs. Guess we all live with compromise. Quit bitchin about what you don't have and appreciate what you do. ps will someone boulder @ Minne on their lunch break for me.
  10. I'm looking for beta on the Talon. The rock sliver you can see from Hwy 12. Anyone been up the thing or know anything about it? I've checked out Beckey, looking for some first hand knowledge. Thanks in advance.
  11. Hey all you sunny eastside dwellers, I'm headed back over to Spokane in a couple of weeks (first half of May) and was wondering if there is any chance of driving to the TH for Chimney Rock. I apologize in advance for posting a ID question in a WA forum, but I figured that some of you will know. Thanks.
  12. Hey Dru, Is this the boulder right on the trail going from Upper Cathedral Lk towards Remmel, on the Pasayten? Beautiful spot and fun boulder.
  13. Geordie seems to be trying to chase the cameraman away with an onslaught of snowballs. Don't you know not to walk in on a brother while he's gettin some.
  14. We found Hubba quiet and peaceful on Mon. Great ice great friends. No rock gear needed. Thanks for the great boot track y'all. ps, check out Duck Boys Ale House, across teh street and two doors down from Gustav's, and way better food.
  15. Nice work Sobo! I was hoping that stuff was coming in. I'm really bummed, I was stuck at work during the great freeze. Any word on the Stobach approach. I'm guessing there's plenty of snow. Know anything?
  16. They were there on 1\2\04 when we went by. The skis looked like they had been there at least overnight, and seemed to be fairly well frozen in place. Good on ya for scoring some great OPT (other people's trash).

  18. Good on ya Sobo! Sorry you missed Jwoo's big herkin foot prints. The ice will come!
  19. A couple of us super nerds are creating little elevation spreadsheets in the back of our books, and taking notes, checking things out to see what forms when, and checking the internet to see what other people are finding for ice. Too bad about the warm front though.
