  1. Thanks Craig
  2. I'm taking a friend up Adams and he wants to do the South Side (newbie, plus he had a relative climb the South Side years ago and he wants to do the same route). Anyway, I've climbed Adams 3 times but never from the south, so I am wondering how long the approach is from the trailhead to the Lunch Counter? Any help is greatly appreciated, Craig
  3. Fejas, I did the North Face of the West Ridge a couple of years ago with FunGuy (actually we dissagreed about what route we did, but after a couple of people looked at the pictures I feel confident in saying this was the route we did). This is looking up the second pitch, FunGuy is standing on the West Ridge. This is the view looking down from the top of the second pitch. We gained the ridge near the big rock on the right where the ridge makes the bend. This is the start of the third pitch. Very fun climbing and quite easy as I remember. This is looking up at the last "technical" portion of the climb, from where FunGuy is standing it was a very short scramble to the summit. I don't know if any of these will help, but thats what I have to offer on this one. Craig
  4. Oh, come on now. I know someone out there knows where you can car camp around Paradise. Craig
  5. I'm wanting to head to the Paradise area to check out the flowers and do some general photography. I'm still recovering from shoulder surgery and not able to carry a backpack. Is there an area where I can sleep in my truck? I plan on being there for wed. and/or thur. night if that makes any difference? Any information on this will be greatly appreciated. Criag
  6. I'm not positive where I read it but I remember reading that high altitude climbers (I believe they were talking about 15,000 feet and above) can burn as much as 6,000 calories per day. The article was about meal planning for climbs and expeditions. Craig

Since I have 3 months rehab to look forward to (according to the doctor) after my shoulder surgery I have some time on my hands. I've already watched all my favorite movies so I figure its time to rent a few. What climbing movie (fiction or documentary) do you like or recommend? Keep in mind I'm on some good pain meds so it doesn't have to be too good of a movie for me to say aaaahhhh, coooool Just for the record, I haven't taken enough pills to sit through Vertical Limit again. Anyway, typing with one hand sucks so I'll look forward to some good leads on some good flicks. Thanks, Craig
  10. That whats so great about this web-site!! Craig
  11. I was wondering what the views are like from the Thumb Rock camp site on Liberty Ridge? I'm thinking of heading up there for a photo trip, I don't plan on summiting this will strickly be for photography. Also, how is the approach? Is it extreme technical climbing or straight forward? Any information would be greatly appreciated (including any photos showing the view). Thanks, Craig
  12. If it ever froze hard enough then climbing St Helens from the "inside" of the crater would be a hoot, a loooooonnnnngggg approach for sure, but hey 2,500 feet of near vertical climbing!!!!!!! Craig

  15. "hey little boy come over here.....HEY YOU, GET THE HELL OFF OF ME.......your mamma boulders!!" The possibilities are endless. Craig
  16. Here are a couple shots of the Hogsback a little later in the season when there is no doubt about the bergschrund. and a little closer look... I plan on going back this year with a wide angle lens to get a better shot of it. Craig
  17. I thought being a man meant never having to say your wrong Craig
  18. thanks, but that doesn't mean I have to tell him. Craig
  19. A friend and I have differing opinions on what wind direction info means, and after he made his case dammit he had me second guessing myself. I say if the wind direction is reported as 270 that means the wind is FROM the east and blowing due west. He says it means the wind is coming FROM the west and blowing due east. He says that an east wind means the wind is coming from the east (I agree) so therefore wind direction info is always the direction it comes from. So my question; when wind direction is given as a degree (i.e. 180, 265, 28, etc) is that the direction the wind is coming from or the direction the wind is going to. thanks, Craig
  20. Those are sweet shots man. What are you a professional photographer or something? Oh yeah, that's right. I'm trying, at least in what little spare time I have ; maybe someday it will happen. Until then I'm stuck in the same ol' Hellhole I've been stuck in . Craig

  24. I'm going to read ALL of the Healthy Forest Act, but it's extremely long and I'll have to finish it later. But, I couldn't help but notice the loop-holes big enough to drive a logging truck through in the opening paragraph: "...and certain other at risk lands...and address threats to forest and rangeland health, including catastrophic wildfire, across the landscape, and for other purposes." My first fear is the phrase "and certain other at risk lands", if thats not open ended! Then it clearly states to address threats INCLUDING wildfire, this means they just need to say "its a threat" and they can take action up to and including logging. "...and for other purposes." Let the vagueness reign. I do not trust Bush with the enviroment he's not given me a reason to. But, I do trust that most people are after the best...maybe that's a flaw of mine but there it is. So, I hope that this will end up doing what its supposed to but I fear it is just a step backwards. If they only go after underbrush, small trees (tinderbox) and dead trees it WILL be a good thing if they do what they've demonstrated in the past it WILL be a disaster. Craig
  25. Very interesting article and lets all hope the numbers are real and not just a smokescreen for next years election! ""Job growth is the key to a sustained economic expansion," said Bill Cheney, ..." Any relation I wonder? "The nation's payrolls grew by 57,000 in September the first increase in eight months... In other encouraging economic news from the Labor Department, new claims for unemployment benefits last week dropped by 5,000 to 386,000, a sign that layoffs are slowing. U.S. workers' wages and benefits rose 1 percent in the third quarter, compared with 0.9 percent from April through June." Still more work to do. We just laid off two more crews at my job! "He added: "We're on the right track, but we've got work to do."" You can say that again! ""It is a little like a drunk going on a binge," said Sen. Kent Conrad, D-N.D. "It feels good for a while but you all know that the hangover is coming."" Craig
