  1. If you all don't knock it off this instant I'm going to have to create a disrespectable list after all and put you kids on the top of it. Now go to your rooms!
  2. Yes, welcome Mr. Roper and Mr. Majors. I can only hope the spray monkeys on this site don't expectorate on your posts. Some of them can't help themselves. These are certainly times where it is never warranted. Harry, here are some pictures of Mt. Custer, since you were speaking of Henry Custer: Custer from Rahm Custer, Northeast Side Custer, South Side Too bad such a chossy peak had to be named after him. And, Henry, I would love a copy of one of your books. I will send you a PM.
  3. Was there a fish ladder?
  4. I took a fantastic panorama of the entire Enchantments Plateau from McClellan Peak on Friday. Just as soon as I get it scanned and hosted on a secret server I will provide the link.
  5. Most of the larches in the Enchantments aren't very cowardly right now. Not many are yellow. Looks like a couple of weeks from now they should really be primed with that monochromatic zinc chromate look. They'll kowtow eventually.
  6. Nary a bug. On Friday at elevations above 7,200 ft there was a fresh dusting of snow (half-an-inch deep in drifts) that lingered on north slopes and sunless areas. Probably getting more up there as I type this.

  8. Pencil: you missed a crucial point in the suggesting post: to be done in 18 hours, not 72. Still, even in 72 hours it would be a logistical and bone jarring nightmare. But, really, who gives a rip? I suppose we can all come up with some speed ascent idea (climb from the lowest to the highest point in each park in under 30 hours or something stupid like that). It's all just inane chestbeating as far as I'm concerned. And this site tends to make people act that way. I don't really care that people feel compelled to take on these experiments and then rush to tell us about it (like doing Olympus in 18 hours or what have you). Are you trying to prove something to us? That you are hardcore? That we should idolize you? There, my rant for the week. I feel much better now.
  9. Just so you know, access to Andrews Creek Trail north of Winthrop is closed due to damage caused by the Farewell Creek Fire. FS lady in Winthrop told me today that you can bike the last 5 miles of the Chewuch River Road to the Chewuch River Trail. You can bike the trail too as far as I'm concerned (who's going to be up there right now to snare you?). Shortest way in to Cathedral Peak is via Canada (Wall Creek-Cathedral Fork). Shortest way in on WA side is from Windy Creek Road/Trail about 10 miles SE of the peak as the crow flies. However, you have to drop down about 1,300 feet or so from the trailhead to get to the Chewuch River Trail.
  10. Ha Ha, an Enchantments enchainment. How catchy! OK, Kyle, so was that your guys' gear stashed on and in the rocks of upper Crystal Creek on Friday afternoon? I was descending from Crystal Lake around 5:00PM and came upon a green sleeping bag airing out on a rock and sundry other climbing paraphenalia tucked here and there. I wondered where these people were. I figured they were climbing something technical nearby. If it was you, then you may have been up near The Flagpole at this time. From time to time I heard voices but could never pinpoint their source. This occurred while I was descending from the north side of McClellan Ridge and again while I was on Little Annapurna and, I think, again while I was in the upper Crystal Creek drainage. If you were on The Flagpole in the 3:00-5:00PM timeframe, then this might explain it. However, when I looked down at The Flagpole from LA, I did not see anyone. I thought they were voices in my head or snafflehounds or both.

You can tell they're newbies. All their gear and clothing looks brand new. No dents or scratches in the helmets either. And, goodness gracious, the leader guy has a fluke with him. I have one...deep in the bottom of my gear box. Never used it; never take it with me anymore.
  12. Mt. Goode, the highest peak in North Cascades National Park--would be the most difficult to complete the triple play. After all, it's one hell of a long approach and then class 4/5 to get to the summit by its easiest route. Impossible.
  13. Uh, Les Schwab is dead, bub.

    cc.com sucks

Aw, looks like Trasky didn't get any from his left hand this weekend. Now wonder he's "porn in a bad mood."
  15. Brian: this was not Sergio's group but the group below them. Sergio said he talked to the guy that got hurt while they were passing on the descent.

What a stupid foto for foto's sake!
  17. It might be cool if there were a page (a forum?) on this website that was laid out like a calendar that could be used to post upcoming events. I dunnknow. Might work. Might not. The weekly pub club venue and rope ups and special slide shows, etc. could be posted on the calendar as necessary. People could also then use the calendar to access info of past events (instead of searching through the pages of the forums themselves).
  18. Huh?
  19. Anyone? Scrambler for President! Scrambler for President!
  20. My story is a lot like Bronco's but I didn't have kids to deal with. Nobody got anything done that day at work. Not unexpected.
  21. The U.S.A. is going to be at war for so long the carrier will never be in port long enough to need its own dock berth. It'll just trade out with the last carrier that was moored. This will continue until the carrier is old and in need of replacing (about 20 years from now), at which time it will be scuttled in the Red Sea where it has spent most of those twenty years.
  22. No, he's not dead. CBS was just stating his opinion that a naval ship should not be named after a living person. Reagan is still alive and there's a ship named after him. We've been naming ships after people for a long time. Remember that guy named "Constitution?"
  23. Dumbshits all. The carrier will be named after George H. Bush (Herbert Walker), 41st President, not that dimwit we call our 43rd President. ...looks like Greg beat me by a hair.
  24. From Yahoo!... Insurers Sue Terror Groups for 9/11 By LARRY NEUMEISTER, Associated Press Writer NEW YORK - Besieged by claims resulting from the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, dozens of insurance companies filed lawsuits Wednesday seeking $300 billion in damages from terrorist groups and companies and countries accused of supporting terrorism. In the two lawsuits, filed in New York and Washington, D.C., the companies sought to recover money paid out, or set aside to be paid, as a result of the 2001 attack on the World Trade Center. The lawsuits maintain the companies are entitled to collect damages and recover claims under multiple federal laws. The defendants include the organizations al-Qaida, Egyptian Islamic Jihad and Hezbollah. Countries including Iran, Iraq (news - web sites), Sudan, Syria and Saudi Arabia are also named, as are Osama bin Laden (news - web sites) and dozens of businesses in the region. Omar Manis, deputy ambassador to the Sudanese Mission to the United Nations (news - web sites), said he had not heard of the lawsuit and could not comment. But he said the Sudanese government had "nothing to do with 9-11." The telephone number to the Syrian Mission to the United Nations was repeatedly busy. Those who answered the phones late Wednesday at the Saudi Arabia Mission to the United Nations and the Iraqi Mission to the United Nations said no one could be reached before the morning. The lawsuit filed in New York called the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks "a direct, intended and foreseeable product of a larger conspiracy among the defendants to commit acts of international terrorism against the United States, its nationals and allies." It said that without material support and resources from the other defendants, al-Qaida could not have carried out the attacks. ______________________________________ GIVE ME A BREAK! "Maybe" for the legitimate companies or countries, but not for the terrorist organizations--especially al-Qaida and Osama been Hunted.
