I asked a dish to be at my side for the picnic... ...but she said no.

Re: Kung Fu Hustle I liked it. The previews I'd seen made it look like a spoof comedy. But in reality it's more of a drama with comic undertones (like The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly was). There are spoof bits but mostly it has its own gags. The special effects were great (for the genre). With these kung fu movies, it seems each new one that comes out has to top the previous one in terms of action, stunts, and effects. In this regard, the movie succeeds, although the 1 on 50 fight scenes that are so typical of the genre showed me nothing fresh. The movie is subtitled but quite easy to follow, although at times--especially in the beginning--the plot was hard to fathom. This didn't detract from the end of the movie. I recommend it.

"If six turned out to be nine, I don't mind. I don't mind. If all the hippies, cut off all their hair. I don't care. I don't care. Dig. Cuz I got my own world to look through And I aint gonna copy you."

Mom's Rule #34 applies then, I guess. Mom's Rule #34: "What if everybody knew it? Would everybody be better off then?" Mother's Day is coming up. If I get her a nice big box of chocolates maybe she'll give me the password for the filter program. Dave: can't copy-paste a PDF to Word, at least not with my version of Adobe.

No no! I capitulate. I'll lick your muddy boots, I'll darn your dirty socks, I'll shave your hairy back. Anything. Spare me the agony of the ways of Olyshan Karoake Fu.

I tried again. Must be my Adobe. Darn it, chucK, that info might have been handy for me to strategize ways of attacking Oly at the Thursday BBQ.

We had a showdown scheduled? Golly darn it. I forgot to put it in my schedule book. Sorry, bub. Brass knuckles or did you have a more novel weapon in mind this time?

I'm seeing Kung Fu Hustle tonight. I'll report in tomorrow right here on this handy-dandy cc.com movie review thread.

Tried to look at the non-blacked version and PDF file won't open (says there was an error doing so). Maybe someone put the kibosh on it. Well, you do have the original, eh?

Thanks for the link. So the gate at Dingford Creek is scheduled for 2006. Looks like I better get those peaks that I want to climb in there done this year. Things like Big Snow (if going the Hardscrabble way), Overcoat, Summit Chief, Burnt Boot.

You know, if you read Bush's speech above he doesn't say that the mission has been accomplished. In fact, one gets the gist that he is saying the mission is not accomplished, that the war is on-going. Just a few examples: "Our war against terror is proceeding..." "Our mission continues. Al Qaeda is wounded, not destroyed." "The war on terror is not over; yet it is not endless." Only the banner said Mission Accomplished. Wasn't there some disagreement among pundits and insiders as to the meaning of the phrase and how much Bush was aware of its existence and intent for use?

Poor quality but first instance I found:

I stand my previous post in this thread. Humanity has thousands of years of experience at such things. I don't remember exactly everything I said 2 years ago concerning the war but I knew at the time (as I see and know now) that things like securing the peace take time to foster. I remember a lot of liberals and even conservatives wanting a sooner than later pull out of our troops. In an ideal world, yes; in a real world, not likely. Edit: Ireneo: your use of the word "knew" says everything I need to know about your comment. But, yes, "Mission Accomplished" (in hindsight) was a poor phrase choice.

Will there be earplugs provided at the picnic? People will be requiring earplugs. Squid will be singing 'Desperado'.

Life's a bitch and hindsight's 20-20, inn't it?

I had a Bud yesserday while I breezed around the golf course at Trilogy. It went like this: 260 yards from the teebox, 165 yards from the pin, ball slightly below the feet in the rough, perfect draw shot to within 15 feet of cup (but later missed the putt for birdie). With shot to green food cart babe looked on no doubt in awe of my studdily golfing ability. I then stopped her and purchased a 12-oz can of Bud. Cost me $2.50 + .50 tip.

To read Trask is to know Trask: Thanks, Mr. Berry. I saw it in a used book store recently.

Sure, send the Olympics pano pic to me (via email) and I'll see if I can make use of it. My Front Range pano is just one of many perspectives possible from the Seattle metropolitan area (from the Space Needle, for instance). Pax's above is slightly different. In fact, you can see where he took his shot (the UW Medical Center building--or near to it--labeled in the middle image). Some peaks I was surprised were visible from my Queen Anne vantage: Helena Peak (considering that its 5 miles ESE of Three Fingers) Bushwhack Peak (east summit point is visible, Nine Lives Peak may be obscuring the main summit) Mt. Baring (all three of its summits through a convenient gap up the North Fork Tolt River drainage) Mt. Garfield (just the top of it) Chimney Rock (took me a while to convince myself) Note that peaks like Bandera will be more visible from other vantages. Capitol Hill gets in the way.

Pax, the valley that is "F" is the South Fork Tolt River on this side (west of the 3,000-ft pass there between Phelps and Red) and Money Creek on the other side (east of the pass). Money Creek drains to the South Fork Skykomish. Regarding the mislabeling, Roper treats it well in the above link to his website. ~~~~~~~~~~ Well, here is 8 hours of work today to complete these annotations. I've been sitting on them for 10 months. Just needed someone to kick me in the ass. Thanks, Matt! Full Panorama (resolution limitations): NE (Mt. Ditney) to ENE (Ten-Four Massif): ENE (Morning Star Peak) to East (Big Kid): East (Frozen Mountain) to SE (Bandera Mountain):
