  1. Are you suggesting we reign-in the excessive demands/"gains" extorted by labor unions? God forbid a UAW employee be asked to pay a single dime of their healthcare premium!
  2. What world do you live in, Matt? What planet? Seriously. When have you ever called upon your fellow lefty 9/11 conspiracy kook clan to account? When have you stood up against your fellow lefties here who have expressed the desire to "put a bullet in the head" of the president? How many "passes" have you given to the likes of Viendra7, Dave Schultz, and ilk? Posting without information? Like the LA Times/NY Times pap you regularly and exclusively regurgitate here? Where is this "counter-argument" link you boast of? You regularly claim open-minded status and political neutrality but rarely - if ever - claim a center stand on anything political. I do like your expressed stands on wilderness access, but I'm not sure you're trustworthy there either, frankly. You remain the most frustratingly hypocritical albeit chameleon-like poster on this entire site. Stop pretending, Matt. You are never going to seriously consider any position that takes you outside of your comfortable little belief system. You are Crux hiding under a thin tarpaulin.
  3. Actually, that was John Kerry's line during the '04 race when faced with policy questions he was unable to answer. Now, Crux, please consider changing your username to "Demtool" or, maybe, "Demjizguzzler".
  4. Nice TR. Your comments about "laying there 15 minutes past the 3:30 alarm wondering why" are a page right out of my life - and as I get older the answer only gets more difficult to find. I believe the total net gain (including the hump back over Long's Pass) on this trip is 8000 feet! That's almost a one-day Rainier climb. I really like the trend toward one day ascents...lighter packs, less time away from family, personal physical challenge, and less impact on the backcountry. Thanks for the report.
  5. I've seen the exact freshman-type edit hack done to Clinton and, frankly, it's just not that funny. I guess almost anyone can piece together words, phrases, gestures and do this to virtually anybody in the public spotlight. It's just plain dumb. What is humorous is when someone actually says something stupid, and GW offers plenty of material for his detractors. You can do better.
  6. I think so - with Warrior in the left/background? I'm not sure, and even though I had Buckhorn as a waypoint in my GPS that day, I didn't turn it on to see if it pointed that way.

  8. I think "Jupiter Cliffs" are what I saw through a brief break in the clouds yesterday from the top of Mount Townsend. (?)

  10. Not really a climb, so I won't "[TR]" it, but the kid and I hiked up Mount Townsend today. Originally planned to hike Marmot Pass and climb Buckhorn, but rain on my windshield made me take a right at the fork in FS Road 27 - not a problem since I'd never been up here before. Classic Olympic forest mist and very light rain followed us up this well maintained trail. Plenty of Rhodies and other assorted mountain flowers to be enjoyed. Although I wore boots anticipating snow at 6400 feet, there was none to be found in anything but small patches around 5600 feet. Tennis shoes and a water bottle would have worked just fine. My son claims to be out of shape, but we managed to knock off this 4mile/3000' gain in about 1hr 30min while he sang to himself with his IPod buds stuffed into his ears. (The boy still has much to learn.) Singing merrily: Dad (aka Fairweather): This view lasted about 3 minutes:
  11. Who is this sexy woman Arch? I would very much like to have relations with her please.
  12. Great post!! I'll be writing Norm Dicks - in who's district I reside here in Fircrest. He's very responsive and fair minded. In fact, he's the only Democrat I regularly vote for.
  13. I keep bringing it up because it was an obvious key in their plan, and a terrible defeat for common-sense non-motorized recreation. Their victory on the upper middle fork has since borne fruit for similar pressure groups that have succeeded in closing the road out of Stehiken. Your favorite road may not be next - but it will come up on their list eventually. The USFS let the Middle Fork Road decay while the debate raged, but it could have been properly maintained all-the-while. You just keep rolling over for these enviro-idiots and pretty soon your "weekend outing" will be a thing of the past - unless you really like hiking endless miles of decommissioned road.
  14. That's simply not true. "MidForc", Mountains-to-Sound Greenway, and "ALPS" actively petitioned for its closure. WTA supported it, but wasn't promoting the decommissioning. Were it not for these pressure groups claiming to represent the masses the Upper Middle Fork Road would have remained open.
  15. Too bad reasonable access to Overcoat Glacier is now extinct - compliments of the modern environmental minority.
  16. He must have had a bad childhood.
  17. The wife and I commuted to Sunrise yesterday: Beats the hell out of survival mode in an HOV lane. Nice day, but the beer at Naches Tavern was not cold (enough).
  18. Eric Johnson, no shit! Should be in top 5 at least. Lindsay Buckingham?
  19. Ok, Dru. If abortion were to be banned in Canada - and I've not said that it should be - an exception for rape, or in your "aunty's" case, incest, would be allowed. If the Christian Right thinks otherwise, they're nuts. The rest of your argument is just plain stupid anarchy.
  20. Shit! That means I sent about 200,000,000 potential Fairweathers spiraling to their deaths down the shower drain just this morning!
  21. You're such a tool Dru. You know you're talking .0XX% of pregnancies with the rape argument, but it's a convenient fall-back position for the "militant-choice" like you. Of course abortions should be allowed in case of rape - as they currently are under the on-demand policy. Besides, isn't this an American policy issue being discussed here? Frankly, anyone - right or left - who gets sucked into this embryonic stem cell debate is a useful idiot for one side or the other.
  22. ...At implantation, IMO. "At conception" rules out birth control pills and the morning-after variant. While I think Bush is wrong on this, I can see he is simply trying to remain consistent - which is not really possible re this issue. I would point out that this "ban" only applies to federally fundedembryonic stem cell research. The private, for-profit business of research goes forward, and constitutes the vast majority of science here I believe. Should abortion be illegal? I honestly don't know, but I find the idea utterly disgusting, especially with all the birth control options available today. There's just no excuse or reason. And spare me "the condom broke" bullshit - we all know how that one goes.

  24. If these are the only choices, then I guess it's pretty clear:
  25. I give up. What is ggk? And, speaking of chemistry, is it considered rude to present a ph strip or swab and petri dish before partaking?
