  1. A couple people have brought up glucose tablets (or lemon drops). I've got some sugar tabs from Germany that are mostly maltodextrin... any reason why those wouldn't fit the bill as an emergency sugar source?
  2. Though members of Congress were on the committee, it was not a Congressional committee. From http://www.9-11commission.gov/: Wasn't President Clinton was interviewed by a similar independent committee, also under oath, for the Lewinsky what-have-you (the infamous videotape)?
  3. My favorite part was when she tried to explain that the document entitled "Bin Laden Determined to Attack Inside the United States" was not a warning that bin Laden wanted to attack inside the US.
  4. I remember reading about a Yosemite hardman smearing pine resin all over his shoes to get the FA of some crazy hard slab (5.13?).
  5. Not if you don't run Windows.
  6. Argh! .wmv! Any chance you have an MPEG version?
  7. It looks like someone took a fall and was injured. http://www.heraldnet.com/Stories/04/4/4/18434384.cfm
  8. Yeah, what he said.
  9. Early this afternoon a helicopter flew close by the Index town walls, landed near town, and later picked up what looked like a paramedic and a litter on its winch. I hope this wasn't another climbing accident... anyone know what happened?
  10. [Crocodile Hunter]That's right, Gary! Outer Space is home to one of the largest populations of wild chickenheads in the state![/Crocodile Hunter] Too bad about your partner...
  11. You can swing one o' them P'tit Loups across the street at LCD...
  12. I got a similar punishment when I refused to listen to that voice: sprained ankle and six weeks of reading about other people's climbing. Get better soon, and work on keeping your muscles and joint in shape!
  13. Your web page makes it look like you're seeking clients, not partners. Big difference.
  14. ... in winter.
  15. Do a search and you will come up with reams of opinion, poetry, slander, and spray relating to the hate-it-or-love-it tricam.
  16. Would someone please post the move-by-move beta, a la Chain Reaction, so I can go send? The photos and chalked-up holds still leave room for uncertainty. Does reading this thread blow my onsight?

    I'm back!

Ha! I had to double-check to make sure this wasn't CBS.

    I'm back!

the fleb is in hardcore work mode nowadays.
  19. My friend Dan skied the north couloir today. Good firm snow up high, but variable and more difficult conditions in the lower third. Avy debris down low was annoying. On the way out (around 12:30pm) we saw another guy headed up with his boards.
  20. If I bring pins, it's only been on routes where I also have an ice tool with me, so I use the ice tool hammer. Almost all established moderate alpine rock routes I can think of around here don't need pins since they protect well with a regular free climbing rack (cams & nuts).
  21. Pick up a guidebook and start climbing well-established routes that look a little harder than what you're doing now. For example, NBC on Colchuck, White Salmon Glacier on Shuksan, NF Buckner. Look at Steve Ramsey's website. He's been writing TRs for a lot of moderate steep snow/ice alpine routes lately. "Just go out and do it" is pretty damn good advice, though.
  22. Come on, Scott. Get a grip. Do you really think I'm that callous? If you can point me to some news sources that describe general anarchy in that region (aside from the recent flare-up, of course, which is duly noted), I will gladly read them. I just was not aware that Kosovo has been racked by bombings, genocide, and anarchy since the late 90s. This is the period I'm referring to. I know that things were very bad around the time that NATO got involved, but I had thought they had improved: in a cursory search, the only news stories I find in the past 6 months are about the war crimes trials and rumblings of Serb nationalism in parliament. I am well aware that other regions of the world, like Iraq and Haiti, have seen some serious strife lately, hence the comparison.
  23. Dude, have a ! That's exactly what I said: it's not going to be a fucking picnic anytime soon, given the region's history. But, prior to the recent flare-up, I don't remember hearing about Kosovo the kind of news that has been coming from places like Iraq, Israel/Palestine, Afghanistan, Western Africa, or Haiti in the past year or so. Which of these places have you been to lately, Cheif? I mean, you've really been "in the shit", right?
