Umm, Godderdamning, Iraq didn't have anything to do with the terrorist attacks. What are sacrificing American lifes for? Wake up, indeed. Who do we attack? Everyone that isn't American? Anyone with a "towel" on their head? Do we attack China, North Korea, Saudi Arabia? Your blind patriotism is pretty dim. This is a for profit war. You were one of the profiteers. Dick Cheney would be proud of you.

Just stepped outside to check it out. That cloud is going off! It'd suck to be under that, it's sparkin!

Crackass, Josssh, I think you boys are just jealous...maybe you two should get together for a shared bivy this weekend. See you out on Adams?

America destabilized the Mideast region by selling arms to BOTH Iran AND Iraq during the 1980's under Reagan. Good thing our country did that, they love us over there now! We ourselves with this element of "foreign policy."

skiing Adams with a babe-alicious.

Why did we invade Iraq for? Lies about WMD, illusory connections between Sadaam and Al Quaeda. Oil. Americans killed for oil, and the profits to be made by privateers. Ain't worth fighting for.

so, my standards are a little low. It was the possibilities!

I used to live with two sisters and their Mom one summer (One was my girlfriend.) I was CONSTANTLY trying to get the other sister involved. I didn't see anything wrong with it... and the mom was pretty good looking too.....

Kind of hard to drive with a 12 gauge shoved down your pants! But seriously, the Ford SUV Hybrid only gets mid twenties MPG or something like that, not what the sticker says.... when mid twenties is considered GOOD gas mileage, there's something wrong. But it's a start, I guess. Ford didn't do this out of environmental altruism, it's to be able to sell cars in California by meeting %'s required in that state for low/no emission vehicles.

If the weather forecast is good??? for next weekend, going to go for three days to Glacier Peak with skis or Sat Sun to Adams to ski the SW chute. Any BC skiers that want to go for a long haul into Glacier?

If you buy soft shell pants, why would you be carrying them?

Excellent Stranger this week, there's a scary article about Bush's evangelicism and his ties to the christian right and the rapture.... Our president is a religious zealot and someone who should never have been elected.... oh, i guess he wasn't.

OP announced it this spring, so it's old news. Not to worry, inmates will still be prepackaging starbucks coffee and other jobs, so don't feel bad for the inmates, plenty of other corporations will still exploit prison labor in this country.

All you homeowning people proud of your investments make me sick- "Oh, better buy a house unless you're living under a bridge." FUCK YOU, there are plenty of working poor people in America who don't have the chance at home ownership. with the average price of a shack with a bad roof running $175,000 and up in the Seattle area, some people are priced right out of home ownership and are stuck paying the man. Apartments do suck, and so does being poor. Anyone read "Nicked and Dimed: On not getting by in America"? Not everyone is as lucky as you proud homeowners.

don't go all postal, tomtom its (one of) the lightest white gas stoves. I guess the trangias or home made alcohol stoves would also be an alternative to buying canisters all the time and throwing them away. Kiwi, if its an enviromental reason you don't want to throw them out, go with an alcohol stove(no dinosaurs killed for dinner) or a white gas. The simmerlite is the lightest WG stove i know of out there. lightest way to go, leave the stove at home when you don't have to melt water for drinking, and eat uncooked stuff like ramen, HC, and cold instant coffee. mmm, tasty.

Check out the MSR simmerlite, Kiwi, it's a whitegas stove (no canisters to trash every other trip), weighs in at 6.5 oz.

Encounters with the Archdruid by John McPhee, about a Colorado river trip with James Watt and David Brower. Mcphee is a great writer. The Boat That Wouldn't Float by Farley Mowat is humorous and entertaining. good water oriented reads, not too tough on the crainium but good books nonetheless.

I've got some three or four year old lasportiva kevlar boots, and the fabric definetly abrades quicker than leather. But nice and light, so its all a tradeoff. The fabric snags on sharp rock. I've melted some of the frays back with a lighter but be careful if you do.

what peeves me is pulling up to certain intersections on a bike and waiting for the light to give you the green. The metal mass of a bike isn't enough to trigger the pavement sensors, so you can wait interminably for a car to show up to turn the light green. This often is the case where low key streets intersect arterials. Makes me want to run the light... what also peeves me off is tickets while riding a bike go agains your driving record... that sucks! I'm also pissed off at don't walk signs for pedestrians. I'm walking, i don't give a rats ass anymore.... if there are no cars, I'm crossing. I'm peeved to let cars right of way interfere with my right of way, there's something not right in this day and age with patiently waiting for the walk sign. Oh, and grocery prices, and gas prices, and the administrations deft mishandling of energy, environmental, fiscal, and foreign policy, that all peeves me off too!

remember what Sir Edmund Hillary said about trekking in Nepal? "Don't go." Deforestation, and catering to westerners, are rapidly deteriorating their traditional way of life. I imagine it's only a matter of time until a McDonalds opens up in Kathmandu. it could serve McMao burgers, placate the rebels while feeding the tourists...

...the "secret" to sewing weather resistant seams is using cotton thread, and is used by some manufacturers. I still like big globs of seamsealer myself, cracked. just trying to anwser ferns query.
