The largest park fee funds go to the biggest park generators, It has nothing to do with state fees or taxes Tom. It's a big pool of funds.. Or it was last time I checked.
BTW half the reason I say no to climbing Rainier to partner is the excessive taxing. Money to get in the park and money to climb it. Now more money I think it's going to influence more climbers to "avoid" the fee. Is that good? Dont answer...
We can argue between ourselves all we want until blue in the face but it does not matter unless we are heard by the right people.
Oh wait it takes a guide to get guided parties to the top. That's an extra person for each 3-4 people (guessing) so that is indeed an increase in their impact on the mountain.
Good arguments matt- And what does this have to do with the fee increase?
Do the guided parties pay a fee too? I would bet if we did a study one might find that they spend more time on the mountain than the typical climber. I could theoretically argue in that case these guided clients impact the mountain more since if they spend more time on the mountain. But is it true? I bet it might be.
Oh and if anyone from the Leavenworth Ranger District wants to read this - Larry Inthout and those like him are nothing more than overglorified parking\meter maids. They don't know the first thing about backcountry use and shit. Guy never steps out of his truck but to harrass climber types.
No military flashbacks that day. But when and if you have to deal with Larry Inthout - aka the Tool then be prepared for a lot of bullshit and harrassment unless you have your pass (who needs a permit anyways in there). If the guy was respectable and had some real educative input or some reason why it is so bad not to have a permit then I would think twice. I've never done the permit bullshit back there. However I have paid for climbing permits in the Canadian rockies and the Rainier parks because I do beleive some of the cost is used for climbers. But that does not mean I agree with the cost or the increase in fee. Who would buy a permit to climb the willis wall? Is it insurance for the casket or what? Not like someone is going to haul your dookie out or rescue you on some routes. It's a tax.
I'd like to but I am not ambitious. I'd rather just chill and have a mellow time. I'm sure the route is good. But finding a partner online that I have never climbed with is not what I had in mind for that route. However I did climb Triple Coolers with Veggie like that
leejams- I am not looking to ice climb the north side of the mountain. I am looking to do the "easy" route up there with a nice bivy (not so nice if it rains).
Let me know if you want to take a hike up there.
Fear is sometimes the cause for good judgement and bad. Ride with your experiences and you'll decide what was right in the long run while looking back. I don't believe there is any science to it.
If you dont have any experiences well then .......
Cool, well I dont want to wait for the weather. I'll be solo on something or with partner by 8 am saturday at a trailhead most likely. I sent my number..... I agree I like the Colonial idea the best....
