A "gain" I can and have borrowed against! So in the respect it is more "real" than the money stuffed under Jayb's bed.

Hey do the math... Bought the most expensive I could afford with the least down. Its been five years of increased value. Net result is a substantial gain. Worst part about it was J-B's constantly freaking me out with his "peak oil " posts!

Jayb - I have had interest only on my house for the last five years. Now I am looking to sell. I think I have made out pretty well.

Sophomore #1: Boy I just read Finnegan’s Wake in Modern Lit. What a tough and complex work. Sophomore #2: Are it just seemed childlike to me. Sophomore #1: When did you read it. Sophomore #2: I didn’t. I read some quotes in the New York Review of Books on the issue published on the anniversary of Joyce’s death. Sophomore #1: Ah…..

Are you so blind that you cannot see...Are you so deaf that you cannot hear..... Summary for those interested..... Bythe way I agree with Hitchens here his conclusions regarding "Plamegate" awere obvious upon inspecting the evidence. I also agree with his footnote at the end concerning the truthfulness of Bush's clain of Iraq's interest in buying African "yellowcake".

Your 90% seemd off to me and in fact it is a bit overstated. (actually 74% ) perhaps a more important consideration is the religion of the much loved leader. (Alawi)

Puget Post: Bob Novak will break his silence tomorrow night in two separate interviews with FOXNEWS CHANNEL, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned. Novak will appear on Brit Hume (6pm/et) and Hannity & Colmes (9pm/et)... Puget Question: How do Novac’s interviews square with what you thought happened with him? How do they fit in with your broader view of the Plamegate? Mattp reply: Sorry to disappoint you, PP, but the truth is I really didn't notice much that was all that interesting in Novak’s recent revelations. He seems to confirm what I had previously thought….. Puget Question: Did you watch the broadcast interviews or read the transcripts? Mattp reply: Nope. Instead of dancing about and shadowboxing, why don't you point out what you thought was so significant? Shadowboxing? Dancing? I ask a question, you reply in a manner that suggests you have the capability to answer the question but the content of your question certainly implied that you hadn’t seen the interview or read a transcript so I asked if you had. You then say I am shadow boxing and dancing. Come on Matt Bush lied but you can’t even be straightforward and say you couldn’t be bothered to watch the interview?

Did you watch the broadcast interviews or read the transcripts? Note again how you my views on something. of course this is not responsive to the question. I clarified my view ealrier in this thread. You do make a silly point and avoid the real issue. Of course Rove was involved in the issue. He testified in front of the grand jury that alone qualifies for involvment. I have never argued against the fact that he was "involved". What you are doing is suggesting something but doing so in a sly way - one that doesn't involve you being specific or laying out facts. One that gives you plenty of wiggle room.

PP Quote: What I have scoffed at and have complete disdain for are those who have claimed that the Bush administration is something close to the Stalin regime. Or that they are breaking new ground in illegal behavior or underhanded tricks. I also scoffed at those who claim that the “outing” of Plame broke the law. This last assertion was bullshit from the start and yes it is true I do think that those who believe are not really think but rather simply shouting the party line. By the way enough of you and me let’s talk facts – something I have tried to do in this thread. How do Novac’s interviews square with what you thought happened with him? How do they fit in with your broader view of the Plamegate? If you want to continue to discuss posts of mine in other threads, please start a new thread and supply links to supporting documentation. Mattp’s reply: Actually, Peter, I believe YOU started a thread in direct reference to past discussions. Hence your choice of thread titles. What I suggested in your thread title was the general “spacey-ness” of your argumentation. No direct reference to any specific thread. To be clear the reason I was suggesting you open a new thread to discuss my past posts was because you were redirecting the subject. (ie avoiding the issue of Novac's statements) A new subject deserves a new thread. Don’t you find it odd how you accuse me of avoiding your questions (To other readers: check out how Matt uses this as a diversionary tactic in this very thread) and yet you avoid my very direct and on topic questions to you. You contiue to avoid any real discussion and throw unrelated accusations into the fray as if that was making some sort of argument. It is, in the end, simply another form of sloganeering.

Oddly you bring up in mocking tones an argument I was making in a completely different subject. (Imminent v gather storm) You went outside of the current discussion in order to hurl insults. I respond playfully and unlike you directly to what has just been written. You then conclude that I deserve cj$###’s post because I took a “cheap shot.” To that I can only shake my head. I will agree my shot was cheap but only because you provide such an easy target. Is it my fault that your arguements fall apart through little effort? I would enjoy a "more costly" disccussion. I have not sneered at anyone because they thought Rove may have been involved.

Thanks to Bablefish here is a translation from the "spin":

Come on Matt at least provide lionk to your out of context quotes! link to Novak With regard to quote 1 - It's still unproven and you have yet to provide a bit of evidence suggesting otherwise. But the point I was making in my original post was that such actions had they occurred would not be unique to the Bush administration. With regard to quote 2 - It appears that as far as Novak is concerned the "leak" was not part of an evil plot by the administration. So was it anger or crass politics on Wilson's part?

I assume you mean the first pitch. The answer is it depends, but for the most part it does stay dry enough to climb and enjoy it. Sometimes there is crack seepage. In July I dont think that will be a problem.

Peter_Puget replied to Gary_Yngve's topic in Climber's Board
Without giving it much thought I can think of several very experienced NW climbers who have been involved in near misses, serious or sometimes fatal accidents from rappel or lowering accidents. Some of the better known “public” names: Jim Madsen, Greg Child. Some people I am thinking of post on this board. The “old school v new school”, “sport v. trad”, “cragsters v alpinists” analysis seem to be useful methods to create a “us v. them” structure where the “us” comes out on top and the “thems” are the accident prone gumbies. Sure accidents can be the result of a lack of skills but their number is inconsequential compared the number of accidents caused by a moment of inattention. -
Paraphrased from another website: "This has got to be the perfect CC.com news story. It has drugs, scientific progress, lots of US foreign policy angles, massive opportunities to disagree about its truth, implications, etc."
