[TR] Smiff- Cruel Sister, Delerium Tremens, Blue Light Special 3/8/2004
Dru replied to Alpinfox's topic in Oregon Cascades
The Big R was first climbed by some French dude back in the mid 90's and is named after a hardware store in redmond Originally rated 14b by said French dude it later dropped to 14a after a quick repeat and has stayed there ever since. IIRC the holds at the bottom are full on chipped edges in otherwise blank desert varnish which is not too aesthetic. -
What I mean is that you can look it up here. Why should I do all the work for you?

I just finished making a 7 page PDF detailing almost all the routes excluded from, misreported in, or climbed since CAG second ed came out - for the Canadian side of the border only (well, except for Bear Mountain... and the north side of Tomyhoi). It is attached. Pls have a look see and see if I missed anything or if there are any corrections. I will send the finished version to Fred. 321779-cagiii.pdf

maybe, mike, you should trip out on shrooms and love everyone, instead of, when someone like colin sends some new rad hard route, posting the one word reply "gay", cause it only makes you look like you are jealous cause you aren't getting none.

Yeah Robert Anton Wilson told me that years ago... but what do you get from Shrub's name, not a huge berserk rebel warthog, obviously....

did you know JOHN WILKES BOOTH and LEE HARVEY OSWALD have the same number of letters? And so does THE KILLER RABBIT

beware, the seattle sombrero - it's the perfect accessory for that shorts-and-polypro, "I'm Going On My Mounties Intermediate Course" look. I like the OR water bottle parka. Cheap, keeps your tea warm when iceclimbing, you already have a nalgene, and it wont break like a thermos will. Also in the summer you can use it to put bolts, bit and wrench in while drilling a new sport route, sort of like a chalkbag for bolts

Well WTF, I set the alarm for 5, slept thru it and in fact slept till 9 or 10 AM. Determined not to waste a beautiful day I unpacked the pack, packed the crashpad and went off to Hope. Cleaned about 5 new problems and climbed my whole circuit with the new additions except for the one I cleaned 3 years ago and still can't do One of the new problems was even a "natural sit start" that is, a problem which is actually logically best started from a sitting position as opposed to a problem where a sit start is a contrived means of adding length and difficulty to a problem. OMFG I did a sit start, am I turning into Distel? Obviously not cause I didnt take ANY photos Came home and had a cold shower cause the heater wont be fixed till Monday. Cold showers are obviously an acquired taste I never bothered to acquire

Well I been breakin' rocks up in Coulee #3 I know it's been forever, thought you'd Never hear from me The weather up here is rotten Rainin' granite all the time And both moons are glowin'purple And there is no sun to shine I been diggin' deep down in a tunnel That goes twenty miles down And I know my life is cheap When I hear that rumblin' sound CHORUS, etc. (2 more verses) Is he singing about PNW cragging? You got the couleee, the constant rain, the rotten rock, the tunnel (Index and maybe L'worth) the only things ol Stan doesnt mention are the bush and snafflehounds.... As for the purple moons I guess he met up with Greg-W

in all my first aid courses they indicate that no one is OBLIGATED to provide first aid except professionals like EMT's. i would have no problem being the one to say "don't waste your time" giving cpr to a guy with a massive head trauma or whatever. i appreciate that people want to help and will do some rather extreme things rather than admit someone is dead, but the "what if I could have saved him" factor does not really bother me - at least from my abstract position of never having had to tend to a serious injury or a fatality. i hope to keep it that way.
