Did we use ropes? Hell yes! I had my new Rando rope that is 30M 8mm. That thing kicks ass. Tons of dead ends on the sahale glacier where the bridges had collapsed recently, so we had to end run almost all of them. We also went slow up the east gully, belaying the last bit in gaper style. I guess I dont think a stupid slip in the sandboxes are really worth it not to rope up there, but that's just me. The rappel was fun with a 30M rope, and we trudged back pretty qickly down the arm, only to stop a few times and get some great shots of marmots and sahale. Compared to 2001, the glacier was darn broken up

You can sew a line up no problem and eliminate rope drag if you use runners in the correct manner. You know this though, and for your first lead in an alpine setting, sewing it up is not a bad thing. We all can't lead 5.9 in our boots anyway

Sewing it up is a good thing IMO Obviously I cant do the ERD of Forbidden!

It was still blazing, creating quite an unpleasant hike up to Cascade Pass from all the smoke Marmots were running for their lives everywhere! More info: Location: South of Johannesburg Peak in the upper Cascade River drainage about 20 miles east of Marblemount. A portion of the fire is now in the Glacier Peak Wilderness Area. Mineral Park Fire is approaching the largest fire in size within the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest since the mid or late 1960s. From: http://www.fs.fed.us/r6/mbs/fire/mineral_park/index.shtml

I hate rappeling, basically becuase your not in a system, only if you use a backup prusik, which I have never done. I do like to have a fireman's belay whenever possible though. Multipitch rappels are never fun. When we bailed off of Forbidden this last week, I hated it. I wish I could get a Magic Carpet -

We all start somewhere for sure! I always get a good laugh at my website when I had first posted "Lake 22" back in 2000. Pretty hilarious. -
