  1. Trip: Nesakwatch Spires - Ensawkwatch Enchainment Trip Date: 07/27/2024 Trip Report: Posting this mostly just to say that if you wanna get after this, there are still snow patches in the basin for water, and as of last weekend the bugs were not even remotely bad. Driving past the parking spot for Slesse now highly inadvisable. We went a bit further and managed to retreat without getting a flat tire, but we were lucky rather than smart in that regard. North Ridge of South Nesakwatch Spire from summit of north spire: Edited to add: Also, the pocket glacier has not slid yet. Gear Notes: Light rack to modern (grey) #4 Camalot, tricams handy Approach Notes: Steep but such a nice well-trodden trail!

  2. This season I noticed that the beautiful stone placed as a Memorial to a Fallen Climber had been knocked down over the winter. This is on the south side of Squire Creek Wall, in the area of the grassy saddle camp. The stone was pushed down to a lower shelf. In a few moments of our "rest" period, Yale and I dragged, rolled, and pushed it back up close to its original position.

  3. This is an odd take to me. Most of the entire country is full of roads and management. N. Cascades has always been presented to me as a "backpackers National Park", which frankly to me makes it one of the few national parks that I would consider visiting. The rest are overrun with humanity, which I guess is great b/c it keeps them away from other amazing natural areas like the Wind River range in WY. Interesting though, bc Olympic NP, while having more services, is similarly remote with huge areas of little infrastructure or people. WA is lucky to have two such parks, IMO.
