Jarred_Jackman Posted December 12, 2002 Posted December 12, 2002 Has anybody been near Shuksan lately? I'm thinking of trying either the North Face or the Northeast Couloir around December 21st. I'll just be in the area for a few days so if you have any beta I'd definitely appreciate it as I have no way of checking it our 'til I actually arrive. Is the road to Baker snowed in yet, on the coleman side that is? thanks Quote
Highlander Posted December 12, 2002 Posted December 12, 2002 By next weekend there could be another 4ft of new snow. Better pack a lite saber. Quote
Cpt.Caveman Posted December 12, 2002 Posted December 12, 2002 Bring some skis and ride the snow, don't be gung ho or you might be buried under snow. Go for the sulphide it's safer right now I would bet money on that. Quote
Dru Posted December 12, 2002 Posted December 12, 2002 i can see it from my window but i cant right now cause of the rain and freshiez falling. i would say look out for snowbeasts and Tauntons. Quote
scot'teryx Posted December 12, 2002 Posted December 12, 2002 Taken from Ruth last Saturday (12/8) Probably doesn't help you, but it sure looked cool Does the North Face route ascend on the far right hand skyline that is out of view? Quote
Dru Posted December 12, 2002 Posted December 12, 2002 Does the North Face route ascend on the far right hand skyline that is out of view? No it goes up the face just left of the right skyline, then onto the skyline, then behind the skyline right at the very top. Get out your Beckey scott, he draws a pretty good line. Quote
Necronomicon Posted December 12, 2002 Posted December 12, 2002 Not a good idea, IMHO. It's douching out here right now, I think winter is here for a while. Count on shitloads of snow for weeks on end. But you never know, as this fall has shown us all, and you can always find a "safe" alternative. The problem witht he sulphide, as the winter progresses, is the length of the approach. I've had to ski up the road for six miles, and that was in the spring. Quote
Greg_W Posted December 12, 2002 Posted December 12, 2002 From the website I looked at, the snow level will be yo-yo-ing from as low as 3,500 up to 7-8,000'. Makes for some spicy layers. Quote
mattp Posted December 12, 2002 Posted December 12, 2002 It's supposed to be a warm year. Maybe JJ will get lucky and it will rain up to 9100 feet just a few days before the trip. Quote
Dru Posted December 12, 2002 Posted December 12, 2002 judging by conditions in the FraserValley right now it is raining up to at least 7000 feet level. the temp on the car dealership sign was up to +15 c a few hours back as the front moved thru. pineapple anyone? thefreshiez are taking a hit big time Quote
