Dru Posted December 11, 2002 Posted December 11, 2002 Maybe you are heading to Whistler or something... you could go to see this Fri or Sat night. "Best of the Fest" show with the winning films from the past 5th Vancouver Int Mountain Film Festival and with a live slide show by Guy Edwards, "2001 Complete Coast Range Ski Traverse". The show is on Friday and Saturday, December 13 and 14, at the Brew Pub in Squamish. Quote
thelawgoddess Posted December 11, 2002 Posted December 11, 2002 i don't know how somebody could get bored in whistler. if you are, you aren't doin' it right! Quote
Dru Posted December 11, 2002 Author Posted December 11, 2002 Being surrounded by pretentious yuppies and rich old people and their teenage jibber kids bore me sometimes. Or maybe you are going to try aid climbing this weekend and will retreat to the bar after fixing the first pitch.... Quote
thelawgoddess Posted December 11, 2002 Posted December 11, 2002 ha, ha. no aid climbing for me just yet. i'm hoping to get in some turns down south, do a little bouldering ... but a road trip to canuckia is coming SOON! Quote
snoboy Posted December 12, 2002 Posted December 12, 2002 i don't know how somebody could get bored in whistler. if you are, you aren't doin' it right! Easy if there aint no skiing... Quote
thelawgoddess Posted December 12, 2002 Posted December 12, 2002 there's lots more to do in whistler besides ski. Quote
snoboy Posted December 12, 2002 Posted December 12, 2002 I'm quite aware of that, thank you. It's just that I find most of the options boring or expensive. Maybe that's a reflection on me. Quote
Figger_Eight Posted December 12, 2002 Posted December 12, 2002 Favorite Whistler activities: - throw snowballs through open condo windows. - pick fights with the aussies - check out the go-go girls at Tommy Africas - practice my fake Canuck accent - laugh at neon one piece ski outfits - go hot tub poaching Quote
thelawgoddess Posted December 12, 2002 Posted December 12, 2002 you can find boredom any and everywhere. live it up, dude! Quote

thelawgoddess Posted December 12, 2002 Posted December 12, 2002 see; no reason NOT to have fun in whistler. just don't coat-check your US$450 arc'teryx jacket at the beagle ... Quote
fleblebleb Posted December 12, 2002 Posted December 12, 2002 OK, somebody enlighten me, besides skiing and biking (broke grad student can't afford lift tickets), and partying (why drive all the way up there for that), is there anything else to do in Whistler? Quote
Dru Posted December 12, 2002 Author Posted December 12, 2002 catch chlamydia or other social disease from australian climb build squatter shack in the woods skateboard grow weed work as liftie or serving drinks in a bar feed the bears and rent out a 3-bedroom house to 70 people Quote
thelawgoddess Posted December 12, 2002 Posted December 12, 2002 well, if you can't even afford their genuinely reasonable lift tickets, there probably won't be a whole lot for you to do there that you couldn't do at home. but i find that just BEING in whistler makes even the mundane more exciting. a couple of fun things you can do for "free" or cheap: soak in the hot tub and people watch. snoboy Posted December 12, 2002 Posted December 12, 2002 (broke grad student can't afford lift tickets), and partying (why drive all the way up there for that), is there anything else to do in Whistler? Who said you have to pay to ski on Whistler? Quote
Figger_Eight Posted December 12, 2002 Posted December 12, 2002 Buy one lift ticket and bring a bivy sack and food. Find a place in the woods to hide, and you can ski for days on one pass. Quote
snoboy Posted December 12, 2002 Posted December 12, 2002 Buy 0 lift tickets, hike the Ho Ch Minh, and ski for a week if you want. Try and recycle a 7-11 ticket, sometimes they work more than once. Make sure you look like you skiied a run or two, and go to Customer Service and tell 'em yer ticket ripped off in the trees. It worked for a friend, although his ticket really did get ripped off. Really. Buy overpriced lunch at the top too reduce any feelings of guilt you may have. I've only heard of others doing these things, of course, so don't know if they really work. Quote
freeclimb9 Posted December 12, 2002 Posted December 12, 2002 Whistler-Blackcomb lift ticket: $43. Do they at least kiss you first? Quote
snoboy Posted December 12, 2002 Posted December 12, 2002 Sunvalley ID U$65/day. Eek! Like over a 100 canuck-bucks to ski?! But who pays full price?? Quote
thelawgoddess Posted December 12, 2002 Posted December 12, 2002 the gold card's only a better deal if you don't get the express card free and you don't ski enough during the early season when the lift tickets are discounted. Quote
