rbw1966 Posted January 21, 2003 Posted January 21, 2003 I'm headed there this weekend. Will post conditions upon return. I was in Hyalite from Friday through Sunday and the conditions were a bit warm but the ice was in decent condition. Genesis I is pretty hacked up and wasn't recuperating much at night. HOwever, there was still plenty to climb on with a couple climbs having some small mixed sextions. Hangover was a blast but also saw a lot of traffic and we whined like babies on the approach. We finished out our weekend on a flow about 500 yards beyond Genesis I (I don't have a guidebook so don't know the name) that was in fabulous shape but melting out a bit due to the unduly warm temps. THe road was in great condition and just about any car should make it. Quote
Lambone Posted January 21, 2003 Author Posted January 21, 2003 If "beyond" meens above, then it was Genesis 2. Quote
rbw1966 Posted January 21, 2003 Posted January 21, 2003 Beyond as in further down the trail. Genesis II was in decent condition but we didn't climb it. Quote
Lambone Posted January 21, 2003 Author Posted January 21, 2003 Probably Mummies then. Nice climbing! Quote
icegirl Posted January 23, 2003 Posted January 23, 2003 How has the weather been treating the ice???? Quote
Bronco Posted January 23, 2003 Posted January 23, 2003 How has the weather been treating the ice???? Pic from today in downtown Bozemoan - Had a pretty good cold snap the last couple o days, highs in the single digits and teens in Bozeman, looking warmer for the weekend though. Quote
rbw1966 Posted January 24, 2003 Posted January 24, 2003 How has the weather been treating the ice???? Its looking pretty hacked up when we left on Monday. Still better than anything I've attempted to climb around these parts. The flows manage to heal some over night but the temps during the day are pretty warm. Quote
Lambone Posted January 24, 2003 Author Posted January 24, 2003 The Genesis area gets pretty beat up, cause it's so close to the trailhead. Similar to Marble Canyon or the Rambles. But more obscure climbs in the canyon are ussualy much fresher. Quote
Skisports Posted January 24, 2003 Posted January 24, 2003 If any of you head out to Hyalite PM me I am three hours away in missoula its kinda hard to come by parterns out here I am finding a few here and there. Dave Lambone have you climbed any ice in the bitteroots Quote
Lambone Posted January 24, 2003 Author Posted January 24, 2003 Dave, I haven't climbed in the Bitteroots yet. But there is ice. My friend in Boz has climbed the flows in Blodget Canyon. I guess they are ok. Kelly Cordes put up alot of little mixed routes around there. I guess Mission Falls is one of the closest quality places. My wife and I are thinking of moving to the Bitteroots within the next year. I'm allready on the lookout for partners. Quote
Skisports Posted January 24, 2003 Posted January 24, 2003 Hey do you know a Victor I think he lived in Bozman... I know he works for RMI He teaches ice climbing in the bitteroots or hyalite. I think he lives in missoula now but he might of lived in missoula instead of Bozman I an sure Yeah the bitteroots are great I will be out here for while don't know how long but for a while other then the summers when the cascades will be calling my name Quote
Lambone Posted January 24, 2003 Author Posted January 24, 2003 naw, don't know victor. The Blodget Canyon kicks ass for rock in the summer! I'll be in touch... Quote
icegirl Posted January 27, 2003 Posted January 27, 2003 I heard it was cold last week, but was gonna warm up over the weekend? How did ice fare? Quote
ryland_moore Posted January 27, 2003 Posted January 27, 2003 Skisports, look up a guy name Brad Condra. I think he is out in Law school there. Pretty solid ice climber, used to live in Telluride. Quote
Lambone Posted January 27, 2003 Author Posted January 27, 2003 Don't worry Icegurl, it'll be fat. Stuff doesn't fall down overnight in Montana, all the classic dependable routes will be in. Just go! Quote
Figger_Eight Posted January 29, 2003 Posted January 29, 2003 Here are some pics from this last weekend. Things shaped up nicely. Quote
CascadeClimber Posted January 30, 2003 Posted January 30, 2003 One is a closeup of Genesis 1 looking fat and picked out, and the other is Dribbles, looking much more appetizing that it did in November. Ice ice ice ice ice ice ice Quote
