I'm gonna be doing some climbing on the UTW this winter, and I've heard that the methheads have been getting particularly active lately. I'm planning on just not having anything valuable in my car and leaving it unlocked, but has it really reached that point? Car break ins are lame.

Previous experience leaving your car for a 4 or 5 days in the lot in November?

leaving them overnight is really asking for it. My only break in occurred sometime between sunset and 11pm when we got back to the truck. freaks come out at night. but 4 days is really asking to have it broken into.

How about finding some index local to let you park your car in their driveway? They are generally friendly folk and glad to help out a climber in need. Will PM you a possible contact in town. (friend of a friend)

Trailheads and parking lots and driveways are all at risk as Gene said. I went the way of having a crappy car, no stereo, nothing of value in the car. But the perps still want to check the glovebox, under the seat, and the trunk and break your window to check the above.

Life would be so much better if knowledgable thieves wouldn't or couldn't break into your car or house and steal you blind but they can and will in 2 minutes.

Be as invisible as you can.

the only methdeal i ever saw go down w/ my own eyes was in that parking lot :) yeah, leaving shit there is asking for it in a big way - make a local friend or shell out for the insurance...
