danmcph Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 I saw it about 10 years ago, it was actual footage from a climb in the St Elias range. It shows the climbers going into the climb, climbing it and on the summit. The next seen is one of them on the way out alone. His partners all died just below the summit. The climb was done in the 70's, What is the movie and where can I get a copy? Quote
Alpine_Tom Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 I think it had Jim Wickwire in it? I remember getting it from the Seattle Public Library on VHS years ago. My recollection is that it was filmed the year before Wickwire's successful K2 ascent. I don't know if that's enough to find it in the SPL collection if it's even available anymore? Quote
telemarker Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 This was a film produced by Steve Marts, of Jim Wickwire, Dusan Jagersky and Al Givler. Givler and Jagersky fell and died on the descent. Steve's sister in Wenatchee has a copy of the film, on VHS, as well as a lot of Steve's produced works. I remember that as a pretty somber film. Dan_Miller Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 This film by Steve Marts is entitled Fairweather because it depicts a climb of an un-named 10,000' peak in the Fairweather Group. I have a VHS copy of the film which I cherish. The film is at once both joyful and somber. Al Givler and Dusan Jagersky were my original climbing instructors, and mentors in the mid 1970's when I began to climb. Their death nearly caused me to reassess the whole alpine climbing notion. I've not been able to quit in all the intervening years apparently. Quote
JasonG Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 It would be great if these films were transferred to digital and preserved. I know it sounds like a movie I would like to see. Quote
