Krentist Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 Heading over to Vantage this weekend and hoping to top rope some easy-ish cracks. Any suggestions? Quote
Burke M Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 get the book, youll save yourself tons of time wandering around... Quote
keenwesh Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 don't go to vantage, you'll save yourself the hassle of getting your skull stapled back together after being crushed by the constantly falling choss. Quote
kurthicks Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 A number of moderate cracks can be top roped on the Sunshine Wall. Use care accessing the anchors near the edge. That said, the cracks at Frenchman are rarely splitter cracks and you might find yourself 'cheating' by using the face holds. Quote
Nate J Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 (edited) are you going to lead sport climbs to the anchors or set up something from above? there's not a single "splitter" at vantage is there? Edited April 12, 2012 by Nate J Quote
obwan Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 Cracks really suck at Vantage - it is mostly a bolted/sporto jug-fest. Good for the upper body work-out. Quote
Nate J Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 there is 20 feet of pretty glorious hand crack on air guitar when the rest of washington is rained out or covered in snow! Quote

Dave A. Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 Easy is relative but I'm guessing the OP wasn't looking for Air Guitar. There's really very little at Vantage that qualifies as easy and top-ropeable. My suggestion, grab a copy of Kramar's Leavenworth Rock and head for Leavenworth. Lots of exactly what you're looking for. Quote
telemarker Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 there is 20 feet of pretty glorious hand crack on air guitar when the rest of washington is rained out or covered in snow! Corner Pockets has a generous section of finger locks in a corner to excellent thin hands to wide hands crack; Commeterme has a good 40' of thin hands to perfect hands; Stems 'n Seeds has 30' of off fingers, to perfect hands to wide hands; Bob's Your Uncle has 15 feet of finger locks to thin hands; Steel Grill has sections of perfect hands to long reaches to wide hands; George 'n Martha has excellent sections of thin hands to perfect hands to wide hands; Bob Dylan has excellent thin hands through most of it, to perfect hands to a few moves of wide hands; many more are available. It's funny how people rag on Vantage, yet have no qualms beseiging it from March to the end of April. Last Spring was a zoo there. Sorry for the drift... Quote
LUCKY Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 (edited) Burning spears 10-C easy top rope setup just lean over the top, good anchors, easy walk around, nice belay spot Stay away from sunshine wall on the weekend...it's a zoo, with lots of rockfall and if you wander around on top look'n for a top rope knock'n down rocks expect people to get pissed.
