johnthethird
Im on a bit of a road trip and would like to check out vantage. Am I too early in the season (likely head there sometime next week) Is there a gear shop in town I can grab a current guide? What is the likelihood of turning up and finding a partner?, failing that, any certain areas that are easier than others to set up a TR solo? Thanks for your help, and sorry if this is posted on the wrong page.
ivan
it's a fine time of year for vantage - lots of folks there on sunny days near the weekend - don't know where you'd get a guide round there - the sunshine wall area (marked w/ signs) offers plenty of solo-tr options, though w/o beta you'll likely end up losing a bit of time scoping it all out
shaoleung
The nearest town is a gas station with a subway and pizza! Back country car camping out there. Pack a cooler!
kevbone
This time of year is a good time for there. If you live near an REI they have a guide. Or just head down to the crag and ask around.....have fun.
obwan
Johnthe3rd: This time of year is the best (early Spring) - no need to buy a guide book, just show up and everyone there will have one. As said before, most of the climbs on Sunshine Wall are easy to TR. Cheers,

johnthethird
thanks for the link. I guess I need to grab a parking permit, whats the closest place to pick one up? And camping is free?
sobo
Should be able to get a parking permit at any sporting goods store in the state. Camping is free, but be careful where you pitch. There are plenty of "desert flowers" out there that could still be quite fresh...
johnthethird
whats this desert flower?
sobo
People shit in the desert, wipe their ass with toilet paper, and put a rock on top of it all. Over time, the rocks displace and the toilet paper "blooms" like a "desert flower"... So pay attention to where you pitch yer tent. Got it?
