cstorms Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 I'll be heading out to North Bend, OR on the coast in a couple of months. Are there any climbing areas nearby? I would appreciate any information on bouldering or sport. Thanks for any help Quote
Kimmo Posted December 25, 2011 Posted December 25, 2011 North Bend, on the coast. Not Bend. Don't know of anything over thataway. Quote
genepires Posted December 25, 2011 Posted December 25, 2011 my bad........at least I got the state right. Quote
cstorms Posted December 26, 2011 Author Posted December 26, 2011 yea I'm far from Smith... I don't know anything about climbing in Oregon and was told this site would be my best bet. Any info about climbing that is closer than Smith would be nice, I'm sure there is something closer than 4 hours away Quote
corvallisclimb Posted December 26, 2011 Posted December 26, 2011 Pick up Greg Orton's Rock Climbing Western Oregon: Rouge edition. Its got some stuff on the coast a little bit south of you, that should keep you busy for a little while http://www.amazon.com/Rock-Climbing-Western-Oregon-Rogue/dp/1879415461 Other wise, there's a fair amount coastal rock so just go explore, I flew over some fun looking stuff near Bandon after taking off from North Bend... Ian Caldwell Posted December 26, 2011 Posted December 26, 2011 (edited) I think a guy named Leonard??? lived in the Coos Bay/North Bend area about 10-15 years ago. He was climbing 5.13s at Smith. I heard he put up some routes in the coastal area. I think he moved to colorado some years ago. I have no beta for you, but if you hike around you might find some developed areas. J_Kirby Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 The beach from the South Jetty in Bandon down to Devil's Kitchen (State Park) is littered with all kinds of fun to climb seastacks with easy access. Some have established routes, some are vertical peanut brittle, almost all of them are fun either way. Quote
