KaskadskyjKozak Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 If they don't do it, maybe Obama could take a cue from you and threaten sexual violence against their family members? Quote
ivan Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 seems ironic that we'd tell other countries to be nice to gay folk when we still have discriminatory laws ourselves? same as it ever was though i suppose... Quote
tvashtarkatena Posted December 7, 2011 Author Posted December 7, 2011 True dat, but most reform begins in a hypocritical environment, if you think about it. The Obama admin. has fallen short on a number of things, but they've done very well re: gay rights. End of DADT, withdrawing legal defense of DOMA, and now this. As much as conservatives (Rick Perry, for ex.) may frame this as a 'special rights for gays' issue, the US should can and should discourage countries like Cameroon and Uganda from executing people just for being gay, using foreign aid as an incentive. Well, it's par for the course... after all, America is the World's Policeman, isn't it? We have a curious penchant for telling other folks across the globe how to live, when our own backyard still needs to have the dog poop cleaned up... Quote
tvashtarkatena Posted December 7, 2011 Author Posted December 7, 2011 We give away billions in aid to these nations...I'm perfectly OK with having strings attached. Quote

Yes, folks like Perry are clueless. This is not a "special" rights issue. This is an issue of finally giving GLBTs the same rights that everybody except them enjoys. How does the opposition not understand that??? Quote

tvashtarkatena Posted December 7, 2011 Author Posted December 7, 2011 The opposition is pandering votes from Kristians. They don't really believe anything, other than 'what do I say next to get more votes'. Cynical, sad, and the sign of a broken party on the wrong side of history, but there you have it. Quote
sobo Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 Hence my condemnation and abhorrence of fundamentalists, of all stripes... Bunch of zero-tolerance hypocrites... Quote
