Skiing Baker

A couple weeks ago I went up to Baker with a couple of friends for my first day of skiing for the season!!! The plan was to climb to the top via the coleman-demming, ski down and be back in bellingham by 3 for class and work.

We got to the trailhead at 3:30 in the morning and were hiking by 4. We reached the top of pumice ridge by 11 and had to turn around so that I wouldn't be late for a midterm. It was a great ski down and we made it back to b'ham just in time for the test.... but the test was canceled :o!!!! oh well.

It was a beautiful bluebird day in the mountains and I'm super stoked for the adventures this season will bring!! here are some pictures from the trip!

[sorry to hijack your thread, RikkD]

how'd it go on Colfax?

it went ok. it was a nice trip with a little camping, a little hiking, and a little climbing. no complaints :)

i posted a bunch of photos on the ice thread right after that trip. the weather was awesome, approach was very forgiving still. but the conditions on the ice were a little thin, i wasn't really up to the ice roof 1st thing this season, and there was a lot of debris raining down the route, which only got worse as the day progressed. we climbed a part of it, but ended up retreating this time.

interestingly, i saw some recent photos of the upper part of the route (from the last few days), and it doesn't look like the top ice pitch has gotten much fatter. i wonder if the lack of melt-freeze cycles contributed to that. it's been pretty consistently cold for the past few weeks.
