Leonard Bezman Posted April 10, 2011 Posted April 10, 2011 Planning to climb Rainier in early May arriving at camp Muir on Sunday May 8th in a party of 4. Can anybody please inform of the likeliness to get spots in the public shelter that time of the year. Should we cary tents 'just in case'? Thanks Quote
wetslide Posted April 10, 2011 Posted April 10, 2011 I would. It seems to always be full whenever I'm up there. Quote
Water Posted April 10, 2011 Posted April 10, 2011 what is your plan if you decide to not carry tents 'just in case' and you arrive to find the shelter full? Quote
DPS Posted April 10, 2011 Posted April 10, 2011 You can always a bring a tent with you in the car and ask the rangers if they expect the shelter to be full. Quote

dougd Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 Get an early start to Muir, be one of the first ones up there, and your chances are good of getting a spot in the shelter. And, just in case it's full, get busy and dig a snow cave if you have to... Good luck on the weather. d Quote
