E. Stoermer Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 I'm looking at the weather this weekend and wondering if anyone has been up Coopers spur rout on hood lately. I have not been up that rout at this time of year and would love some feedback from someone who has. Thanks, Erik Quote
Sanchez Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 If you enjoy a really long hike then this is the one for you! Most people shuttle a car at T-line to make the return safer and less painfull. That's what I did last April and it was still a 13hr "day". Quote
ScaredSilly Posted April 16, 2010 Posted April 16, 2010 I doubt many have been over recently. But for this time of year I would start at T-line and ski over to the route via the Newton Clark then descend the S. Side. Quote
ivan Posted April 16, 2010 Posted April 16, 2010 why not overnight on the climb? - this is a fawk'n awesome time of year to hike in, put in a tent at tie-in rock, summit in an hour from camp, then rage back down the spur w/ a giant goddamn smiley face, seeing hardly a soul 'cept the merry congo-line ant-marching their way up the s side Quote
ivan Posted April 16, 2010 Posted April 16, 2010 and to answer the op question - this is the best time of year to do the route, imho - relative solitutde on the n side, generally benign weather and good snow conditions - don't come back down the spur too late and/or be aware of spring sluff slides that can carry you down onto the elliot Quote
billcoe Posted April 16, 2010 Posted April 16, 2010 I'm with Ivan. Even if the weather looks marginal, it's a great time to go up to tie-in rock for the solitude and wilderness thing. If you happen to have some buddies and some skis, that works too.....might also consider heading up to the top of Barrett Spur on the N side. Snow dome is right there, and the view from Barrett, assuming you can see the Mt at all, is unmatched. Quote
Joe_Poulton Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 Be ready for powder sugar climbing once you start linking the rock piles. That's how it was a month ago. I liked going around the mountain when I did it. But if you want the solitude without the sulfur stay on the Northside. Quote
