Dane Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 Knock on wood. Bret and Dave are missing on Chair. Last time I saw them they were two pitches up and looking good. SMR has been at it since the early hours today. Quote
Dan_Miller Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 Thanks Dane. Let's all keep our fingers crossed! Better up on Chair than some far remote location I suppose. Dane Posted February 7, 2010 Author Posted February 7, 2010 one p.m climbers rapped wrong gully and ended up walking to I-90 Quote
Off_White Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 That's damned good news, thanks for the update Dane. Quote
Dan_Miller Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 All's well that ends well. :tup:Thanks again Dane and of course SMR. As some may know, those unplanned nights out can be pretty miserable. I've never done one in midwinter however. Quote
Buckaroo Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 WUUUHE. I was worried, there's not many places they could have been if they had taken the right rap gulley, either the moat at the bottom of the climb or buried in an avalanche. They must have come out Anderson creek, must have been low visibility to miss that one. Well then, today is a good day after all. TR TR TR TR, lets have it, cough it up. Quote
Dane Posted February 7, 2010 Author Posted February 7, 2010 Met Dave and Bret walking down the trail. Looked a little tired but no worse for the wear Long ass walk out after rapping down the s. side of Chair. But they took care of themselves and walked out under their own power. Good on 'um Stuff like that can happen to anyone, anytime. Quote
Le Piston Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 Glad to hear they are all right. It can happen to anyone of us...just need to be prepared and keep your wits about you. Thanks for the update Dane. Quote
Ed_Hobbick Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 Sunny Remington and I descended the wrong gully off of Epinephrine in Red Rocks, Nevada one time; that made for a somewhat epic night out. It was cold given that we had only shorts and t-shirts on. That said, I'm glad to hear that all is well with Dave and Bret. Brandon01 and I were at Chair on the 3rd of Feb. Quote
Dane Posted February 8, 2010 Author Posted February 8, 2010 For anyone that saw the KOMO web report earlier in the day or the 5PM KOMO news cast I'd be interested in your take. People bitch all the time here about how the media treats climbing stories. In this case having been there when it all started I hoped for the best but it wasn't looking very good till the guys got a phone call out late this morning. Because I have an intimate connection with KOMO and was feeding them detailed info as it was happening KOMO was able to post good info and followed up with a good story IMO at 5PM. Garbage in and garbage out is the usual situation. In this case thankfully, it all had a happy ending. But what the media told the public was EXACTLY what they were being told. Good for KOMO! We as climbers should rememember that. Great for Dave, Bret and their families! Quote
Dane Posted February 8, 2010 Author Posted February 8, 2010 Nicely done Seattle Mountain Rescue! And to the Bug as well for catching the details and getting out the word asap. You guys put a lot of effort and people into the field today. All of us should keep that in mind and look for ways to help out when we can. Quote
Pete_H Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 Best comment from the KOMO 4 website: "Were they attatched to each other? If they were, if one slipped they could have fallen. Hopefully they are OK." Quote
Dane Posted February 8, 2010 Author Posted February 8, 2010 Best comment from the KOMO 4 website: "Were they attatched to each other? If they were, if one slipped they could have fallen. Hopefully they are OK." Hey Pete mind giving me a link to that specific quote from KOMO? Thanks! Quote

Dan_Miller Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 The KING 5 interview they did with the pair last evening was just great. Factually accurate, nothing out of line. Reality is, sometimes we're overdue on our climbing objectives. To my mind at least, that kind of comes with the territory. However, the folks at home always get somewhat concerned. Quote
