Bosterson Posted June 26, 2009 Posted June 26, 2009 NYT article on the John Birch Society Yet for others, the John Birch Society is urgently relevant to the matters of today, in its support of secure borders and limited government, its distrust of the Federal Reserve and the United Nations, and its belief in a conspiracy to merge Mexico, Canada and the United States. This so-called North American Union, it asserts, is part of a larger plot by an amorphous, amoral group of powerful elite — including but not limited to the Council on Foreign Relations, the Trilateral Commission and the Rockefellers — to take over planet Earth. Call it the New World Order. Some of these theories may sound like cable television chatter, or the synopsis of a Dan Brown bestseller. But Birch leaders say this plot is real, with roots going back more than 200 years to a secret, insidious brotherhood called the Illuminati, and with most American presidents among its many dupes and abettors. “We’ve always referred to it as a Satanic conspiracy,” said Arthur Thompson, the society’s chief executive, sitting beside an American flag. WTF? How do people like that still exist? Quote
Bosterson Posted June 26, 2009 Author Posted June 26, 2009 You got to watch the movie called Zeitgeist. Is that the sequel to Red Dawn? Quote

Pete_H Posted June 26, 2009 Posted June 26, 2009 Well it starts with some pretty salient observations about religion and then some interesting observations about 911, arguing that it was a conspiracy - and the movie does make you think about it and question it. From there it goes on to make the same argument made by the John Birch guy above that Bosterson posted; linking the events just described together into a big conspiracy. All in all I think the movie makes good arguments that you can agree with and then takes those arguments to their extreme, which seems pretty far fetched. But you never know, so that's why I where the tin foil hat. Quote

Bosterson Posted June 26, 2009 Author Posted June 26, 2009 Also, lest any of you decline to actually read the article, you might be amused by the part where the NYT writer compares the intelligence of John Birch Society members to that of grilled meat: “At the highest levels there are controls in place,” Mr. Tisch said. Mr. Yamakaitis agreed, saying that if the insiders succeed in creating a new world order, “It basically means less power for us.” “And more for the elite,” said Mr. Tisch. “The Rockefellers, the Morgans, the Rothschilds,” said Mr. Nowak. “Ssssssssss,” said the sausage cooking on a nearby grill. G-spotter Posted June 26, 2009 Posted June 26, 2009 Then there's David Icke, who says that Jews, the British Royal family, and I can't remember who else are not only involved in this same conspiracy but are actually secretly blood drinking lizards. Quote

Bosterson Posted June 27, 2009 Author Posted June 27, 2009 You got to watch the movie called Zeitgeist. People keep telling me that. Give us the cliffnotes. Just got around to Wikipedia-ing this. Apparently Zeitgeist claims that 9/11 was an "inside job" (the terrorist pilots are actually still alive and in hiding!), that income tax is illegal, and also describes the aforementioned plot to create a North American Union. So Pete - are we supposed to watch it as evidence that yes, far too many stupid wackjobs have access to the media, or that yes, those wackjobs are all correct? Quote
