Alpinfox Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 It hasn't updated since 8am this morning. I wonder if the wheels came off at 125mph link Quote
Dan_Miller Posted April 1, 2009 Author Posted April 1, 2009 And I thought it was windy at 6:00am, Check the 10:00am wind speed out: I'm wondering how accurate the wind speed telemetry is. 3-31-2009 Northwest Weather and Avalanche Center Camp Muir, Mt Rainier National Park, Washington Data also courtesy Mt Rainier National Park Wind sensors unheated and may rime MM/DD Hour Temp RH Wind Wind Wind Wind PST F % Min Avg Max Dir 10100' 10100' 10100' 10100' 10100' 10100' -------------------------------------------------------- 3 30 1600 26 52 5 16 29 19 3 30 1700 25 47 5 15 31 28 3 30 1800 23 52 7 19 45 351 3 30 1900 23 49 8 19 35 34 3 30 2000 22 58 4 16 31 60 3 30 2100 19 61 3 16 40 149 3 30 2200 17 85 7 30 56 233 3 30 2300 14 95 5 28 49 218 3 31 0 13 94 6 32 51 235 3 31 100 12 93 12 33 48 242 3 31 200 13 92 7 28 46 240 3 31 300 14 95 4 27 48 230 3 31 400 13 94 18 44 70 225 3 31 600 12 94 43 76 99 240 3 31 600 12 93 65 87 122 235 3 31 700 11 93 71 91 109 233 3 31 800 10 93 81 100 125 237 3 31 900 9 92 70 101 129 236 3 31 1000 6 92 76 111 140 235 3 31 1100 2 88 64 91 114 243 3 31 1200 3 88 27 58 86 238 3 31 1300 3 87 19 50 71 245 3 31 1400 3 88 21 46 67 244 3 31 1500 3 88 21 38 58 239 Quote
Alpinfox Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 140mph = level 4 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Scale. 6deg with 140mph wind = -34deg with windchill Since the wind is coming from the SSW, one would assume that Muir is partially protected. Wonder what the summit is like. Quote
davidk Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 wow! I can't speak to 140 mph winds, but I know from experience that -34deg wind chill is no fun at all - and that wasn't on this continent! Quote
dreimer Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 I can tell you that -44 F was no fun, and there was NO wind...and yes, that was on THIS continent! The grease froze in my bike wheels on the way to get beer, so I had to carry a case of beer AND my bike in that temperature! Quote
shortstow Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 I might have to go up and enjoy the breeze, maybe in fly a kite? Quote
ScaredSilly Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 I'll take -50 and no wind over a wind chill of -35. Either way sounds like some good times for those with a ski-kite Quote
musky333 Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 I can tell you that -70 wind chill is a bitch too. So is -45 with no wind.I have taken a deep breath of -45 and it felt like a mouth full of needles. My son was out driving in the -70 wind chill. When I told him what the wind chill was, he said, " so?". Damn teenagers Quote
Jens Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 Rainier Summit in Winter can make Mt. Washington back East in Winter look like an all inclusive resort. Rainier can make anything or anywhere in the lower 48 look like club med. (Even on their worst days in their coldest days of winter). Quote
