  1. I can tell you that -44 F was no fun, and there was NO wind...and yes, that was on THIS continent! The grease froze in my bike wheels on the way to get beer, so I had to carry a case of beer AND my bike in that temperature!
  2. Nice picture....but you can't see the submarines that'll cost you a bit more...
  3. I will have the opportunity to be in Tokyo the first couple weeks in December. How possible is it to climb Fuji this time of year? I heard it was hard to even get to the 5th station, let alone all the way up. Anyone ever do this in the off-season?
  4. I have been looking around, and would like to get a 4 season tent, for 2 or 3. I have seen the expensive ones, and I don 't think I need that much. I'm looking for cheap, but decent quality. What are opinions on Asolo Ptarmigan 3? It seems decent, but cheap, and I haven't seen any reviews. If it's crap, let me know an alternative.
  5. Yes they are...wouldn't a tip to "learn as much as you can" be good for a newb???
  6. rob, Really liked your points. A couple of points to add to the beginning of that list though... * Learn all the knots and rope handling you'll need when climbing. * Learn how to belay correctly. * All rope is not created equally. Make sure you are using the correct rope for the situation, and carry enough.
  7. What about gear notes....what did you take? Other than the snowshoes
  8. sobo: You got it! I couldn't find it....that's the quote! Awesome quote too!
  9. Someone once said... There are "Old" or "Bold" climbers, but not "Old and Bold". I try not to solo...but will occasionally. Safety you know.
  10. On the same note...I'm looking to buy some new rope for solo and 2 person alpine. What would you recommend? 9mm? 11mm? Dry?
  11. I went on Friday (Grand re-opening of Pradise Inn), and I got there about 8:45 AM, and it was OK. It was warm, and the rangers were out getting ready to direct traffic. The climb wasn't crowded at all. I was all alone several times. Check here for pics: http://climbingdan.blogspot.com/
  12. Awesome TR...I especially like the Gerber Apple Juice at the end! Look forward to getting up there tomorrow!
  13. I'm going at least to Muir Friday morning. I'm not ready to summit quite yet. I hope the extra warm weather holds off most of today, so tomorrow is perfect.
  14. Should I bring skis? I can, but would prefer not to....
  15. The "Just a walk to Camp Muir" was tounge in cheek...they didn't have an emoticon for that one...
