My rule of thumb is if you can't hit the climb with a rock thrown from the parking lot the climb is too far away.....the only exception is when I hike over to the dihedrals at Smith for some alpine climbing.

Rock Climbing => fine aged single malt

 

Diherals are alpine for sure....heck late in spring you have to get up early to avoid the torrid afternoon conditions...thank goodness you can drive to Bend and catch a matinee and enjoy an Orange Julius.
