Anyone recognise the area? 090203_rescue.jpg

Or know the person or where they were?

Adam was climbing over there last month and said that there are several homeless living in the cold down there in tents and tunnels, including inside of that blasting tunnel at the base under Video Bluff. Maybe they could organize them into a version of YOSAR? They could call it Butt-sar (Butte search and rescue)

No kidding Ivan, I've got some stories from that place.

I grew up within biking distance from there so as soon as I saved enough $$ to buy some rock shoes, a harnass and a rope I was there. If my mom had any idea...

I remember one time (I was 15) I was trying to set a top rope anchor with my left hand while standing on a thin ledge, clinging to some old dead tree roots for support. My buddy slipped and landed on his butt next to me, I grabbed his shirt collar with my "free" hand to stop him, we both almost took a 100 foot dive. We always wondered how many people had fallen there...

Ah the joys of trial-and-error climbing education.

If what's left of my memory serves me right you had to visit Devils Lake back around '75 or so and get ruthlessly whipped and sandbagged by the locals day after day to qualify.

(Thinking about reproducing them though, will keep you posted...)
