Farrgo Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Has anyone been venturing out into the Sno-pass area since the highways reopened? Any general impression on the snow pack, temps, routes? Quote
Braydon Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Skiied there Friday. The snow on the slopes and in the area was crud. We had fairly warm temps friday night. Probably 30 degrees. Quote
genepires Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 sounds like it is alpine climbing season up there. (when it freezes up at night) Quote
CollinWoods Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 I went by today and Friday night. The roads are clear and wet so they could get icey at night but otherwise no problem. Good luck. FYI Bluett Pass(I cant spell); the road going to Wenatchee is closed due to the road being wiped out from earlyer flooding or something... Quote
Ade Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 Did all the rain strip whatever ice there was. I'm wondering what sort of condition the routes might be in. It seems like it's still very warm so I'm not expecting anything to be in great shape. Braydon - what did the faces look like? Did the rain clear them of anything climbable? Quote
jared_j Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 (edited) Toured around Commonwealth Basin this morning. Didn't get a look at any routes, but there was a lot of water flowing and it was above freezing at like 7am. Makes me a little skeptical about conditions. North - facing stuff might be lucky, but I suspect stuff is thin and water might be flowing underneath. Edit: NWAC and wunderground.com are forecasting even more warming over the next couple of days, suggesting a lower likelihood of solid ice. Edited January 13, 2009 by jared_j Quote
Peakpimp Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 If I were a cantankerous old codger, I'd be furiously shaking my fist at the weather right about now. Quote
Clarence Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 I toured around Chair Peak today. The snow was fun slushy corn in the sun and icy S-H-I-T in the shade! Although the air temps were warm, the snow on the N aspects didn't seem to be affected--it was rock solid. I saw a bunch of ice on the S, SW aspects of Bryant and Chair, but the temp was 55 F by the afternoon, so that won't be around long. Quote
unklehuck Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 Took a shot at the NE slab of The Might Tooth on Saturday...about 1/4" of ice under 3" or so a slightly dense snow. Bailed after about 15' of sketch. Quote
