mythosgrl Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 A friend and I are going to be heading to Las Vegas February 8-12 for a conference and climbing. We are poor grad school students and would like to camp in someone's yard or sleep on a couch (if you are cool with that) instead of staying at a hotel. PM me if you'd like to learn more about me (I am pretty normal and easy going) or think you could help us out! Thanks! Quote
canadug Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 There is a campground at Red Rocks...It is cheap. Less than 30 mins to the Strip. Quote
Bug Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 Campground!!??? Did you see the picture? I'm guessing they get their pick. Quote
sobo Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 :lmao: That's pretty fuk'n funny, Keith! But seriously, like a true enginerd, I have to ask the question: WTF is up with those ropes over their heads? What kinda anchor system/knot clusterfuck is going on there? Quote
Jeff W Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 You mean you don't recognize the commonly used gofer knot? That's the knot where you need to go-fer you knife to get it un-done. Quote
snoboy Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 I'll guess trucker's hitch on a access trail handline... Quote
sobo Posted November 7, 2008 Posted November 7, 2008 Hmmmm, that looks like a possibility at least. Quote
mythosgrl Posted November 7, 2008 Author Posted November 7, 2008 The picture was taken in Boulder Canyon at a stream crossing. We didn't fix the ropes like that- someone else did.... but thanks guys for the rope management tips... Quote
sobo Posted November 7, 2008 Posted November 7, 2008 mythosgirl- I didn't mean, nor was it my intent, to piss all over your thread. It's just that as an engineer, when I see something like that rope set-up, I find myself compelled to determine "the answer" before I can move on. Hope you find a great place to stay that's cheap/free! Quote
Doug Posted November 7, 2008 Posted November 7, 2008 It's a small wonder that engineers can ever get in the mood to reproduce. Quote
sobo Posted November 7, 2008 Posted November 7, 2008 I'm always in the mood to reproduce. I just don't want to be left with the by-products of the action. That, and I can never find a willing participant. Quote
Bug Posted November 7, 2008 Posted November 7, 2008 One engineering student rides up to another engineering student on a brand new bike. "Wow! nice bike. Where did you get it?" "I was walking by the dorm over there and a girl had her hair stuck in her bike chain so I helped her get out. She took off all her clothes and said, "Take what you want."" Quote

There's also the one about the enginerd and the female frog that claims to be a beautiful princess able to grant three wishes, but she's trapped under an evil witch's spell. "Nah, I don't want any of that. But a talking frog... now that's cool." Quote
lancegranite Posted November 8, 2008 Posted November 8, 2008 You can camp in the desert south of highway 159 or up at Black Velvet for free. Quote
mythosgrl Posted November 10, 2008 Author Posted November 10, 2008 Found a place to stay. Thanks, all!! Quote
