mike1 Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 Light, durable, pack-able, etc. I currently have the Therm A Rest LE 3/4. (700 grams / 4.1 R value). I'm contemplating going closed cell and have been looking at these Zotefoams. Lighter and lower R-value. Thoughts? Anyone using one of these? Quote
FatTexan Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 I use the Gossamer Gear Nightlight sleeping pad. Same Evazote foam but with an egg crate pattern. I am slightly more comfortable at times with it upside down. The GG pad weighs at least half as much. I use this pad for the summer, I have spoiled myself during winter with the Downmat 7. Quote
olyclimber Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 thats the yellow hardman pad. check all your magazines, you'll see it on their pack. Quote
mike1 Posted August 2, 2008 Author Posted August 2, 2008 right, so apparently you can ONLY get these at MEC? Quote
TREETOAD Posted August 3, 2008 Posted August 3, 2008 The exped, and another brand (can't remember the name) of insulated air pad are on sale at Next Adventure in Portland right now. about 70 bucks Quote

crackers Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 Same Evazote foam but with an egg crate pattern. I am slightly more comfortable at times with it upside down. The GG pad weighs at least half as much. Uh, no. The reason the GG pad weighs less than the MEC pad is because they are totally different foams. The density on the GG pad is about 1/3 of that on the pads from MEC, and the manufacturer's rating on the "r-value" is substantially lower as well. Mike, by far the easiest place to get them in North America is from MEC. The foam in the "winter" and the "summer" thicknesses is the same, just thicker... I used one of "extra" tall MEC pads for years. It's fantastic. They're durable, hard to destroy, flexible in cold weather and cheap enough for me to have never worried about breaking it or chopping it up into bits. I bought the tall version because it was wider, and then cut off the end and duct taped it back on so it would compress better. Quote
DPS Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 Pro Mountain Sports sells an Evazote foam pad that is similar to the MEC ones, except they come in grey. Quote
mike1 Posted August 4, 2008 Author Posted August 4, 2008 I went ahead and placed an order with MEC. Should have a brand-spankin Zotefoam this week! Thanks for all the input! Mike Quote
