mtngt Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 Rainier website says the road into WR Campground is hopefully opening just before Memorial Day weekend, still 5-8 feet of snow on the road. Carbon side is open, but haven't seen any reports from anyone going in that side yet, its a LONG approach now with the road closed into Ipsut. Call Carbon ranger station, White River ranger station doesn't open until at least Memorial Day weekend. Quote
fogguy Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 I am headed to Liberty Ridge with 2 friend in mid July. Did you get any feed back on conditions that we may extrapolate forward? Quote
Bug Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 Check the weather link in the sticky post in the Rainier forum. The freezing level is at 9000 at night now and moves up to 14500 Friday through Sunday. Any beta you get now will be almost useless in a week. Check the Rainier blog after things freeze up again. Quote
climbbird Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 Just climbed LR on June 20. There was a lot of ice up high, and rock lower down. The Carbon was fine when we were there, pretty much a straight shot. Lower ridge was melted out. There was even ice on the slope below Thumb Rock. Then a lot of lower angle ice near Black Pyramid. We did it with 5 screws, wish we had 8. Quote
