David_Parker Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 Anyone been up to the road to the high parking lot for Mt. Ellinor yet? How far can you get? Quote
Off_White Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 Report from a friend who went on 4/21 said road was closed by snow around 2400' and there were 5' (yes, five feet) of snow at the lower trailhead. Only the top of the signboard was showing there. Quote
highhatt Posted May 3, 2008 Posted May 3, 2008 A couple of us went on the 17th of April. It was over a 3 mile snowshoe to the upper trailhead, even with the shortcuts.  Here are some pictures:  Lower Trail Head   Upper Trail Head  Teaser Looking at Washington   Its going to be awhile before the road melts out. Dannible Posted May 4, 2008 Posted May 4, 2008 Only the top of the signboard was showing there. Â Thats pretty crazy. I was there a couple of months ago and could see the whole signboard, so I guess all that spring has done is add a couple more feet. I tried to get up there three times this winter and my truck never made it more than .5 miles past where you turn left and start heading uphill. Quote
KBHR Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 I was up there this last Saturday (May 10). The road is still snowed in about a mile and a half below the lower trailhead. Â It was a great day, but a long one. Got to love the snow this year. Quote

woodchips Posted May 31, 2008 Posted May 31, 2008 There is a substantial washout a little above the lower trailhead. It doesn't sound like there's much in the budget to fix anything but the Staircase road up there for this year, so Ellinor/Washington might remain a bit longer hike for a while. Quote
astrov Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 that's too bad, I preferred the gapers and church groups to drive to the upper trailhead so at least the bottom mile of the trail was peaceful ... Quote
