Choada_Boy Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 I ordered a pair for my Quarks but didn't realize that I'd have to make a modification to the end of the handle to get them on. Anyone done this mod, or seen the results? I'm interested in how the tool would work without them on, if I choose not to use them for some reason. Anyone using Griprests on their Quarks in the Alpine? Quote
dbb Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 Anyone using Griprests on their Quarks in the Alpine? All the time. They are well worth putting on and keeping on. Quote
tvashtarkatena Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 Ditto. No need to ever take them off in any conditions. The shaft plunges fine in softer stuff with the griprest. Don't know what modification you're talking about, but I've got an older pair. Quote
jja Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 I've done this mod. It's not too hard and the results are good. I'd recommend using a really sharp knife, preferably a utility razor knife and taking off a little bit of the grip rubber at a time. Better to take your time than to remove too much. Quote
Choada_Boy Posted November 11, 2007 Author Posted November 11, 2007 Don't know what modification you're talking about, but I've got an older pair. I guess I've got an older old pair. You have to trim away a bit of the rubber at the bottom of the handle and drill a hole into what's left for the mounting screw. Thanks for the info, though, I'll start cutting Quote
eric8 Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 I have taken the griprest on and off several times with no need to cut anything. My quarks are 2 years old. Quote
Choada_Boy Posted November 11, 2007 Author Posted November 11, 2007 That's good for you. The older Quarks need to be modified, as the griprest won't fit on the end of the handle. The thought of going leashless had yet to enter the psyche... Quote
