SlickWilly
How bad is this road? Would it be a problem with a standard 4wd pickup?
John Frieh
No. Â 4x4 not needed. Standard pickup/SUV clearance (no lift) is just enough.

corvallisclimb
we made it in a little subaru once, theres only one really bad spot on the road the we had to move some rocks. no problem for a pickup.
GP3
I drove a ford ranger in there earlier this year, had the 4x4 engaged but didn't shift it in. The one bad spot is still there, but if you drive high up on the bank of the road you'll avoid the worst rock. There was a subaru outback and ford escape in there that day, so that should give you an idea. Edited September 6, 2007 by GP3
fgw
About 3 years ago, I saw a minivan at that trailhead. Could not believe my eyes. Once tried getting a rental sedan in there (no go). Still takes a solid 45 minutes from Stanley in my tundra pick up. That's some rough driving.
jordop
Just really slow more than really rough driving.
OrygunJim
Dude, sack up and park the rig at Decker Flat. Make a day trip -approach, climb, return. It will be one of the most satisfying days of your life and the victory beer will be the sweetest you have ever tasted. This is the only way to do FOF in my opinion.
