dberdinka Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 Friends from CO climbed Roan Wall ~ a week and a half ago. Road, approach and climb are in good shape. Bivi Boulder was buried under 30' of snow still. They had many sightings of reticent humanoid type beings equiped with hand drills and SS gear. Quote
cfire Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 We did the Roan Wall Tuesday. Great route and the approach was easier than I thought it would be. I did have a first in the mountains tho. While belaying my partner up to the base of the 5.11 pitch halfway up I heard a loud crash. I look up to see a TREE STUMP the size of a refrigerator flying down the wall. It hits 2 pitches above me, and then again it hits about 30 ft away from me on the wall. I took some shrapnel hits of small wood, but was ok after cleaning my shorts. Luckily my partner was traversing in from the other direction, so it was a little farther away from him. That was one helpless feeling of watching that monster come down at me and I'm locked into the belay. It looked to be coming straight at me until it hit above me and veered right. I'm not sure what the terminal velocity of a tree stump is, but it looked to be coming at me at about 100+ mph. Holy Sheeeeeeiiiiite! Be careful up there! Quote
dberdinka Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 No where to hide on the route! Glad you're OK, maybe Sasquatch wasn't happy with your presence? Quote
G-spotter Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 At least you weren't stumped for what to do Quote
