it just sunk in about 20 minutes ago, that the doc i saw today has forbade me from climbing for the foreseeable future. i can't hike with a pack, i can't hike far. just moderate walking. i can bike and swim all i want. i think i really am going to have to learn to aid, or i will go insane.

oh and he's a climber too. maybe he is just trying to get my fat ass off the routes??

This statement has me concerned...

Considering your lackadaisical approach to spelling, are you sure you haven't been seeing a proctologist instead of a podiatrist?

well he took ex rays of me feet and not my ass so i think i am headed in the right direction. but then i have always thought i would do better if i had a Muffy handler to manage all those pesky details.

My doc and PT told me the same thing last fall. I said fuck it and went climbing.

I might as well had gone to jail for six months. It totally fucked my recovery.*

*your mileage may very.

the Novocain is wearing off my foot... i never realized i could have so many issues. the thing that freaks me out is that my mom was never an athlete but she wore high i mean HIGH heals everyday. even her house slippers were heals. and her feet are just fine.

muffy- you'll know when your foot can take it. I broke my foot in Feb. I couldn't put ski boots on to save my soul but I found some too big climbing shoes and was out climbing in a few weeks. not too much but enough to keep me sane.

Muff,

Take care of your injuries. I promise you that they never go away, they just vacation a bit and then come back later (I think you already know this). The better you let yourself heal now, the better off you will be later. I probably sound like a broken record here, but the long run is way more important than right now.

Hi Muffy, I'm [really] sorry that you got the bum news. I certainly know what it feels like to have someone tell you that you can't do what you love! ***[intense crying]*** The upside however, is that you can still bike and swim! You could morph into some badass pro mountain biker because of this! Well maybe not pro, but you're still a badass...

As for "injuries never going away", um yeah. I think that is true to a certain extent, but I still believe that you can heal almost anything [nearly] completely. Granted, soft tissue injury will always have scar tissue buildup, and there will always be a risk for developing the problem again, but with proper PT and love you can reshape and mold it back into amazing strength. It just takes more time and concentration.

Every time I've been injured, or I talk to buddies of mine who have been, I'm amazed at how much these injuries teach us. Without joking, my personal experience with massive body carnage has guided me into some of my richest of times. So yeah, you'll be out of the mountains for a while, but just think how much more you'll apprectiate and enjoy them when you came back? Again, I'm sorry you're dealing with a bum paw, but getting into the process of healing can be a wonderful learning experience. :yoda:

I'm sorry if I tend to be too optimistic. Its a major problem of mine........

That sucks....why? Are you ok?

i don't think there is such a thing as too optimistic ;)

thank you everyone. i appreciate the kind words and great advice.

my plan is to take it easy and listen to my body. by the equipment that I need to help me get where i want to go. bike, aid climb, and get good shoes to wear at home, in the office and most importantly when i am working out. it feels devastating right now because i am not sure where to start or what to buy first or what will happen. once i start walking the path it wont be so scary.

p.s. if any one needs a belay.... ;)
