WELCOME TO THE CASCADECLIMBERS.COM FORUMS   02/03/18

We have upgraded to new forum software as of late last year, and it makes everything here so much better!  It is now much easier to do pretty much anything, including write Trip Reports, sell gear, schedule climbing related events, and more. There is a new reputation system that allows for positive contributors to be recognized,  it is possible to tag content with identifiers, drag and drop in images, and it is much easier to embed multimedia content from Youtube, Vimeo, and more.  In all, the site is much more user friendly, bug free, and feature rich!   Whether you're a new user or a grizzled cascadeclimbers.com veteran, we think you'll love the new forums. Enjoy!

New route on Rusty Peak (Coast Range)

Recommended Posts

Ray you could get to Rusty on foot in 2 days (maybe not with Fred along) but why bother if you have a job and have the cash to spend? If you fly in you can take more beers [big Drink]

Rusty is Schweeeeet!

Rusty is thhe one on the left and the east summit is on the left of that.

Did you call your route the Beckey/Borbon?

Congratulations, Ray and Fred. With or without air support, the ascent of a new route has an element of adventure quite different from repeating a route that somebody else has done and, while you note that the route may not be a "classic" in the sense that it may not end up touted as a "select climb" and draw the resultant hoards, it was certainly a classic outing that I am sure you will treasure more than repeating, say, Liberty Ridge for the ten thousandth ascent. And I am sure you were fully stoked as you stood on top. The Coast Range is awesome.

Left hand skyline? The rib in centre is the north rib that Beckey climbed last year, i think.

He used to make about 30 or 40 a year so... lets say 25 (conservative) x 50 years of climbing (also conservative) = 1250 FA's. [Cool]

Congrats on the summit with Fred but would you still have been airlifted in without him? At least with the pack hoarses you still have to hike in...unless you ride on top. Must be nice to have enough money to fly in [Moon]

Ray, don't you think it's quite possible that Beckey's already climbed that line twenty years ago and forgoten about it! [laf] You guys get to the top and he says, "oh yeah . . . I remember this!" [Wink]

Ray,

Nicely done. I've climbed/descended the South side gullies in May snow conditions. I suspect they might have provided you with a bit of entertaining looseness.

Did you camp at the head of the valley next to the moraine? If so, pretty good views of the ice routes on the north face eh?

Heres another shot. Rusty is at right. You climbed the ridge dividing rocky east face and snowy north face then up to the east peak?
