catbirdseat Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 Who's going this year? Mr. Fox, Mos, Robo? I'm going with my usual plan to camp at Hidden Valley from Dec. 26-30 or 31, possibly even longer. Interested in mostly trad leading to 5.9. Quote

willstrickland Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 I'll be down here until around the end of April. Quote
catbirdseat Posted November 1, 2006 Author Posted November 1, 2006 maybe a christmas-newyears canmore pub club.. Nice. Trying to hijack a thread about Christmas time rock climbing in warm sunshine in tee shirts and prAna tops? You want to talk about freezing your ass off on an ice cube? Go start your own thread. John Frieh Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 Last time I checked ice climbing girls tend to spend the evening drinking beer in the hot tub. Have fun sitting around the fire with Mr E talking about some girl you saw the day before and how the biners on her quickdraw were facing the same way Quote
catbirdseat Posted November 1, 2006 Author Posted November 1, 2006 Actually, I do like ice climbing. I met a fellow from Canmore down in JTree last year who invited me up there. I should take him up on it. He's a neighbor of Will Gadd. Quote
John Frieh Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 Hmmm... How many months of the year can you climb ice in Canmore? Now how many months of the year can you climb in JT? Could it be that some months that you can go to JT you can't go to Canmore? Hmmm... Quote
catbirdseat Posted November 1, 2006 Author Posted November 1, 2006 Have you ever been to Joshua Tree in June? I have. Quote
John Frieh Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 How hot is it there in say April or May or now? Quote
catbirdseat Posted November 1, 2006 Author Posted November 1, 2006 April or May you can climb early in the morning. It will be over 100 degrees by afternoon. Right now it's fabulous. Probably high 70's in the afternoon but below freezing at night. It's a lot like Smith in winter. If the sun is up, it's nice. Once the sun sets, the puffy coats go on. Quote
willstrickland Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 Two days ago: high 83, low 56, today: High 75, low 47, tomorrow: High 78, low 50. Quote
jhamaker Posted November 4, 2006 Posted November 4, 2006 Maybey this yr I can lure you to someplace w/ more interesting climbing like Zion or Red Rocks . . . Quote
fenderfour Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 If I can get away from work, I will be in J-tree from 12/26-1/1 or so. I will have a woman an d a Columbian with me. Quote
catbirdseat Posted November 5, 2006 Author Posted November 5, 2006 James: Red Rocks is a possibility, although, it will likely be unpleasantly cold there. Robert: Well, do your friends climb? Do you need a partner? Quote
G-spotter Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 Red Rocks will likely be unpleasantly cold there. wear a sweater, nancyboyseat Quote
catbirdseat Posted November 5, 2006 Author Posted November 5, 2006 Hey, from the Folk's house it is a shorter drive for me to Joshua Tree. Even if all things were equal, I'd prefer not to have to wear a sweater. I'm trying to escape winter. Quote
fenderfour Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 They climb, but we would be a threesome. A fourth would be welcome. I will keep you posted. Quote
G-spotter Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 I'm trying to escape winter. When the winds are howling icily through the high desert of J-Tree you can be clipping bolts or even jamming a desert splitter, in shorts and a T-shirt in the Calico Hills. Quote
jhamaker Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 WX. I agree, it can be colder in RR or JT, depending on the storm systems. I'm familiar enough w/ RR now that I can always find a sunny aspect to climb. If we had a vehicle down there, we could choose. Quote
catbirdseat Posted November 6, 2006 Author Posted November 6, 2006 We would have a Dodge minivan if I can get my sister to lend it to me as she has the past three years. Quote
jhamaker Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 I have a Dodge Minivan too. If we borrow your sister's, I can fix it if it breaks on the rd in ; ) Quote
catbirdseat Posted November 6, 2006 Author Posted November 6, 2006 I have a Dodge Minivan too. If we borrow your sister's, I can fix it if it breaks on the rd in ; ) Does Red Rocks have a crappy road? I thought it was good, like JT. Quote
