Joshua Tree between X-mas and New Year's

Who's going this year? Mr. Fox, Mos, Robo? I'm going with my usual plan to camp at Hidden Valley from Dec. 26-30 or 31, possibly even longer.

Last time I checked ice climbing girls tend to spend the evening drinking beer in the hot tub.

Actually, I do like ice climbing. I met a fellow from Canmore down in JTree last year who invited me up there. I should take him up on it. He's a neighbor of Will Gadd.

How hot is it there in say April or May or now?

April or May you can climb early in the morning. It will be over 100 degrees by afternoon. Right now it's fabulous. Probably high 70's in the afternoon but below freezing at night.

 

It's a lot like Smith in winter. If the sun is up, it's nice. Once the sun sets, the puffy coats go on.

Hey, from the Folk's house it is a shorter drive for me to Joshua Tree. Even if all things were equal, I'd prefer not to have to wear a sweater. I'm trying to escape winter.

When the winds are howling icily through the high desert of J-Tree you can be clipping bolts or even jamming a desert splitter, in shorts and a T-shirt in the Calico Hills.

WX. I agree, it can be colder in RR or JT, depending on the storm systems. I'm familiar enough w/ RR now that I can always find a sunny aspect to climb. If we had a vehicle down there, we could choose.

Several crappy roads actualy, but not inside the BLM blocaded (at night) area.
