It is not a flapper but instead a deep hole. Is there anything I can do between now and roundup? superglue? bandaids and neosporin? Quote
Chad_A Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 If it's a deep puncture, make sure you irrigate it first. Hydrogen Peroxide, Hibiclens, Iodine, whatever. If there's anything in there (dirt, whatever), you'll be sealing it in a nice enviromnent for bacteria to grow. I've used New Skin and Superglue with some athletic tape on top of it. Or, keep it clean and doused with triple antibiotic ointment until the morning of the outing, then glue it up. Don't really know of any 48 hour fixes though. Damaged tissue is damaged tissue Quote
iluka Posted October 15, 2006 Posted October 15, 2006 You definitely want to irrigate out this wound but you should NOT use "Hydrogen Peroxide, Hibiclens, Iodine or whatever" Plain water will due the trick (You can sterilize it by boiling it and then letting it cool). Saline would also work. The recent thinking is that the other cleaning solutions also end up killing a lot of healthy tissue around the edges of the wounds which is needed for proper healing. 48 hours out from a deep puncture, I would not close it with suture, glue or the like. The likelihood of having a contaminated wound at this point is high and, as a result, the likelihood of it getting infected if you close it is high as well. It probably needs to just close on it's own over time. If you are having a lot of pain... any chance there is a foreign object such as a shard of glass down in the wound? What did you puncture this with? Depending on that and how long it has been since your last tetanus shot, you may very well need a tetanus shot to prevent against a nasty disease. Quote

Seems like this changes often. I've heard that Hydrogen Peroxide not recommended by some, anymore, but I didn't know that Iodine, etc, were not recommeded as well. Quote
