Actually, I wasn't making comment on the validity of the program, just stating the fact that it's a political loser for Dem's trying to regain the House via some kind of fear campaign. BTW, I was just as upset as liberals when Clinton's white house staff was illegally sorting through the FBI files of political opponents on the floor of the oval office.

I think it is fair to say that the democrats are just as desperate to gain power as the republicans are to keep that which they currently have. Therefore, the motives and rhetoric from both sides should be subject to heavy skepticism. To be fair though, is there any difference of a fear campaign between the democrats approach versus the White House painting those opposed to the programs as "unpatriotic"? I have to lean towards opposition not so much to the program as to how it is being implemented and the attitudes of who is doing so- which would seem to place me in with the democrats. However, I'm less in line with their party line as I'm simply demanding that regardless of who implements the program, that it not be instituted completely lacking in oversight by someone other than our so-called trusted leaders. The actions of both parties over the past 20 years make me not trust either one of them.

Who would make a better climber:

Republicans

Democrats

???????

One time I went climbing with this liberal. All he did was bitch and moan all day about how hard the rock was, how unfair it was that the cracks were too big or too small for his fingers and hands, how the rock was too steep, and what an injustice it was. He said we needed the access fund and the AAC to step in and do some work to make all routes climbable for everyone. He said we needed bolts placed everywhere, so that 5.6 climbers could climb 5.12 also, it was only fair. What a fucking pussy.

Then I went climbing with this conservative guy. So he climbs up this crack like a madman- trouble is, there's another guy already on the route. He gets up behind him, pulls the guy off and causes him to fall. He puts his shoe right in the guy's face- kinda like that Santa Claus scene in "A Christmas Story"- and says something like "too bad for you, sucker"- and gives him a gentle nudge while at the same time cutting the guy's rope, causing him a fatal plummet to the ground. He continues up to the anchors, clips in, and starts shouting all sorts of platitudes about how accomplished he is and that "if he could do it, anyone can". I ask him for a belay, and he says, "fuck off and climb it yourself, you lazy piece of shit. Nothing comes for free so stop looking for a handout. BUM!" What an asshole.

I'm climbing with Independents next time.

Given the Republican's lack of fiscal restraint, even I could be talked into supporting Dem's for House races just to restore some balance. But, unfortunately for the D's, their agenda is transparent - two years of non-stop hearings and investigations. I think mainstream America sees the Dem's as too focused on things the average Joe/Jane aren't really concerned about - or wholly support...like wiretapping of overseas calls and monitoring of secret banking transactions.

I'm seeing the mentioned “agenda” and background issues differently:

Even during Watergate, an investigation to hold a presidential administration accountable did not require the entire Congress. To perform oversight as a check on the power of the executive branch, the Congress has long since worked out efficient procedures for conducting this historic function. If the Dems gain a majority during the midterms, look for not the whole Congress but a committee of six to commence investigation and hearings as required.

I don’t think anybody can rectify the consequences of the false-conservative fiscal policies of the Bush administration in a couple years. Our kids will be paying for it, sad to say. We can, however, start turning things around toward a fiscally conservative direction as soon as Americans have chosen representatives who genuinely support such practices.

About the wiretap issue, despite all the red herring in the mainstream, it has nothing to do with overseas calls. It's all about calls confined within the borders of the United States. In summary, the complaint is that Bush has been wiretapping Americans in America while refusing to get a search warrant as required by law. The administration admits to this now, but continues to refuse to comply with the law, insisting it has the right to use wiretaps to spy upon any American at anytime and anywhere at will -- no warrants, no oversight, no nothing but unchecked power. I submit that the courts and a majority of voters disagree with the Bush position, but it will take action by Congress to do something about it.

The "secret bank transactions" issue is another red herring, in my opinion. Nobody is really complaining about the monitoring of bank transactions, secret or otherwise. But there is concern about the absence of oversight and unchecked power, as the information gained can be misused against domestic political enemies – a pitfall for which lessons were learned during the Nixon administration.

Unless your a terrorist i don't think you have anything to worry about. You are probably not that important, and the government could care less about you doing bong hits and watching survivor. Get a gun, money, lawyer and lots of ammo and lots of money. As long as the American public is armed and mobile it's all good. A person should not fear it's government, the government should fear the person. Do not talk about personal shit on the phone. Don't be a dumb ass, be private, because everything you say and do will be used against you. It has always been that way.

I just don't like the idea of it.

Although, I can't imagine how people who talk in the grocery aisle about their personal lives on their cell phones can complain about the gov't listening in.

The idea of not being able to trust anyone?

Throw away your cell phone.

If I drive around with dead head stickers on my car, i'm gonna get pulled over. I know if I do certain things i'm leaving myself open. If I climb above my gear I am going to whip if I fall. If the goverment made me climb above my gear it would be a violation. We all make choices, but knowing the rules is helpfull. Just ask G.I. JOE and cobra commander.
