DPS Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 There is a sale on a 9.8 mm, 60 meter New England rope at Sierra Trading Post for 113.00. This is pretty cheap, but is the rope any good? Thanks for your insight. Quote
jshamster Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 New England = Maxim I haven't used Maxim ropes that much, but have liked them. Couple of years ago a buddy's double ropes from Maxim seemed to get fuzzy sheath really quick. The single ropes I've seen have help up well. Quote
catbirdseat Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 Just don't buy any ropes with single pik sheaths. They don't hold up well at all. Quote
Jens Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 I owned a 9.8 new england rope about 10 years ago. I loved it and put a ton of sport falls on it. My mantra for ropes is "buy cheap and buy often" Quote
catbirdseat Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 Now where did I hear that mantra before? It sounds so familiar. Quote
Cobra_Commander Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 Interesting that Sierra Trading Post lists one of the features as "Maximum water absorption". Quote
G-spotter Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 Truth in advertising. I bought a Maxim rope once. Once was enough Quote
Chad_A Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 Hi, Dan, My g/f bought us a Maxim 9.8 60m bi-line a couple of years ago, and it has held up superbly. Although, admittedly, I'm not familiar with the different styles of sheaths Anyone care to enlighten as to the types, and how to tell upon looking at a rope which type one has? Quote
