nalo Posted June 24, 2006 Posted June 24, 2006 It's gonna be sunny and I really want to do giants tears, or dreamer depending on how hard we want to pull. I was all set to go but something fell off of a pallete and stabbed my partner's foot. I've got rack and rope and car and skills and fun, safe attitude... all I need now is a partner. -jesse Quote
catbirdseat Posted June 24, 2006 Posted June 24, 2006 Are you sure you want to do Dreamer on what is predicted to be such a hot day? It's going to bake up there. Quote
nalo Posted June 24, 2006 Author Posted June 24, 2006 psh... i need to get a tan... unless you've got a better suggestion? and a partner for me... Quote
curtveld Posted June 24, 2006 Posted June 24, 2006 CBS has a point. 3 o clock would be nicer - especially the N slab. Total Soul and Silent Running are classics and there are other good options if you find line-ups. Quote
jshamster Posted June 24, 2006 Posted June 24, 2006 Don't listen to these naysayers. I've done Dreamer in snow & in 90 degree temps. All good all the time! Â Have fun. (Sorry, I can't go. Putting the wakeboard boat in the water!) Quote
curtveld Posted June 24, 2006 Posted June 24, 2006 Hey, if the Green Giant is calling your name, go get it. But you might want to bring some oven mitts for the Blue Crack! Quote
nalo Posted June 25, 2006 Author Posted June 25, 2006 hey if total soul or Silent running are such classics and moer temperature appropriate for tomorrow, lets go climb 'em Quote
curtveld Posted June 25, 2006 Posted June 25, 2006 That’d be fun, but I’ve got a partner lined up for some alpine rock. My best suggestion is to head for a cragging area where you can find a group to link up with – probably not Darrington, but maybe Index or Squamish? Hope you get some climbing in. Quote
catbirdseat Posted June 25, 2006 Posted June 25, 2006 Total Soul goes into shade at about 2 or 3 pm. Wait until that time and it will be pleasant. Quote
nalo Posted June 26, 2006 Author Posted June 26, 2006 well, i ended up just hanging out at 38. not an amazing day of climbing, but it was really nice out and I played with the rope swing under the bridge by the fire training academy. Quote
MtnHigh Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 The heat on those slabs can be intense. Climbed Silent Running late Saturday afternoon. It was warm at the start, but by 4pm the sun hid itself and the climb was great. Â Attempted to climb Dreamer on Sunday, but bailed after 4 pitches due to being on the wrong line. And by that time (11am) it was an oven up there. My finger tips and feet were burning. Quote
mattp Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 On Exfoliation Dome, Jacob's Ladder and Rainman are shaded until noon. Dark Rhythm nearly so. On a hot sunny day, I'd just get up early and do one of those and plan on calling it swim time when the sun starts roasting. Â Dreamer, facing SE, is probably the worst of the lot for getting sun fried. Quote

My finger tips and feet were burning. Â Were you the 3 going in as we left Saturday night? Sorry you didn't get the climb in. We thought you might fry Sunday afternoon up there. Â At least you didn't have to walk the extra mile+ of road that we did Quote
mattp Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 That is a pretty impressive piece of firewood in the road, isn't it? Quote
cfire Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 That is a pretty impressive piece of firewood in the road, isn't it? Â You ain't kidding! I wish I had a crosscut saw big enough to clear the road. That wasn't there last time I went up there(2 yrs ago?) At least I know to bring a bike next time... Quote

We drove up the road to the Green Giant trailhead around 9pm Saturday after eating burgers at Skidders in D'town. Their burgers are highly recomended. With my low clearance VW wagon, skirting the humongous cedar tree blocking the road was not an option. We car camped at the tree blockage and walked the remaining 1.3 miles of the road in the morning. Quote
