Hike DOWN to Midnight?

Is there a way to hike DOWN to Midnight Rock from the road that takes you near the top of the ridge (forget name). Better yet - could there be a way to hike down? I've heard it's not worth it but want some confirmation before slogging up there a bunch this year.

 

Yes, I know it's raptor season. Any official info on the 06 closures?

You start from the Punk Rock parking lot. I've never done it, but I hear it is a major pain to go this way. Plus you have to hike up at the end of the day.

I have done it and recommend you do not. A bit problematic to find, TONS of downed shit since the 94' fire, no resemblance of a trail, not short, just downright suck, and back up... Stick with the trail.

When it DOES reopen, the hike up from Castle Rock is not as bad as may have been advertised but you wouldn't want to try it in sandals.

The hike up from castle is a grunt, but it is worth it for Washington's best trad climbing destination.

It was an easy descent 20 years ago and someone had offered to drop us off on top and we only had to continue down back to the car. All other times I hiked up but might not be coincidence that I only did ROTC that day we cruised down.
