matt_m Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 Is it just me or is Crystal crazy to close in early April? With the base they have this year it seems PRIME for some sunburn spring skiing. Same goes for Blackcomb closing mid April. Got to be a lot of people still out on the slopes - It's certainly not lacking conditions wise! Quote
Weekend_Climberz Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 That just gives us AT skiers a chance to taste the good, sans lift ticket. Quote
RocNoggin Posted March 18, 2006 Posted March 18, 2006 the amount of snow at the resorts has nothing to do with whether they stay open or close. once spring gets here and the days get warm and sunny most people stop skiing and start doing other things. while you are right, there still are lots of people still skiing, there just arent enough to support the economics of operating a ski resort. they are in it for the money, not for the great skiing. kurthicks Posted March 18, 2006 Posted March 18, 2006 often times resorts have leases with the USFS that only permit them to be open until a certain date, regardless of the snowpack. Quote
Mal_Con Posted March 18, 2006 Posted March 18, 2006 Until last year they alwaysclosed in the spring for lack of skiers not lack of snow. We were at Alpental yesterday great conditions and only a few dozen folks on the mountain. Quote
