Nemo Tenshi?

Anyone been able to fork out the dough for one of these bad boys and use it in super crappy conditions? Been thinking of selling my left nut up for one.

 

Also looking at the Summit Extreme by Outdoor Designs. This one appears to be a kick-ass tent as well.

This thing is tiny (82" x 47" x 28" high) Footprint is similar to an I tent or ID but much shorter.

I know it's tiny. Not too good for gettin' freaky deaky with the big girls but....it still appears to be one heck of a machine for what I need. Just too so darned pricey.

I thought that too because ID quit making their MK1 out of eVent. Then I found the Tenshi and Summit Extreme. Was pleased to see that it's still in use.

 

What I don't get is WHY ID quit using it for a tent. They still use it for their bivy sacks.

Definitely not a lightweight at 5.5 lbs. Haven't used it yet so I can't give a review.

I read a review for the Polaris on backpackinglight.com and was impressed with this one as well. Just didn't like all the guy lines come out of it. Do like the fact that it has a vestibule. The Nemo and Summit Extreme are both lacking one.

My guess is that ID probably quit making tents out of e-vent due to problems with FR (fire retardancy). A bivi sack is legally not a tent, so it does not have to meet the same standards.

tomtom get out there and use it, then post a review. I would be interested. I will have to say in the end I most likely will end up with an MK3 for my 6.5 ft frame. But damn that nemo looks nice.

i briefly used a prototype of the Exped Polaris tent in turkey(2 nights). It was really nice for me because i could actually fit inside of it in my winter sleeping bag--I'm 6'5"--without having the condensation crush thing go on...

 

I'd be really interested in hearing how it works over more than 2 nights.

When General Electric bought BHA, eVent's parent company, their lawyers kiboshed using eVent in tents for the US market based on the potential for an FR lawsuit. The Tenshi and the Polaris are no longer produced with eVent -- if you come across one made of it, snap it up! As evidenced by the UK tents, it's still possible to get name-brand three-layers outside the US. Domestic tents simply labeled as three-layer without a name brand are typically Toray's Dermizax fabric, which is good stuff.

Hey man,

 

I stayed on Mt. Baker for 6 days in a Nemo Tenshi. This was in may and it was fairly cold and it snowed about 6 inches or so. I have not stayed in many tents under those conditions but I ll tell you what I experienced. During setup the first thing I noticed was that there were tons and tons of places to use as tiedowns. I think it was two on each side, and then 3 for the Front canopy. The front thing just zips on which is really nice. On the inside there are alot of good vents. Top rear front, pretty much everywhere, way more then my bibler. The tent also packed small and it comes in a very cool sack.that it just rolls up into. Size, definately small although I stayed in it with another person for 6 days, we did nt kill each other. The fabric is very thin and I felt like I was going to bust through it when leaning againtsed the side. Super quick to setup, just like bibler but seemed easier to get the polls in and out. I do think that we had alot of condinsation. Maybe it was just from us, but I recall a good bit of it on the 3rd night and after. If you have any other questions let me know. Over all I really like it and the tent does stand out..

thanks man....They've switched from eVENT to a PU based laminate now so It's hard to guess how the breathability will compare. What were the weather conditions like when you had the condensation issues?

Conditions, well actually now that I think about it the air was definately moist alot of the time, not dry like it usually is. It did mist for a bit, and we did not use the vapor barrior provided. That thing prolly would have helped. 2 People cooped in that thing makes for alot of exhaust. I really did like the tent though bro. It was so easy to setup.

Used one on N-side of Shasta last May. Performed very well and handled sustained wind gusts of 40+ just fine. Didn't use the condensation cloth, but wouldn't have needed it anyway. As mentioned lots of guy-out points. My partner likes it so well he will likely sell his MH Annapurna and stick solely with this tent. My $0.02
