Double_E Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 Two of 'em, actually. I'd seen them a couple times before, at Rainier and maybe elsewhere, from miles away. These ones we saw Saturday were about 100-200 yds away from us. Skiing up at Green Mountain, near Darrington. Kinda exciting, but kinda freaky all the same. Definitely learned some lessons that day. Full trip report here: http://www.turns-all-year.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=tr0511;action=display;num=1132514097 yep .... avalanche-watching-virgin no more!!! Quote
Weekend_Climberz Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 Damn dude! That sounds pretty wicked. Need to get out there myself sometime soon. Quote
gosolo Posted November 23, 2005 Posted November 23, 2005 nice...thanks for posting up....reminds me of my younger days, i took an avvy course in about 1980 from the U of U. We were up in the mountains and the instructor said "see that peak, it has huge avalanche danger and recently there were tracks traversing all the way across those avvy slopes, those idiots." My partner and i exchanged sheepish glances and hoped you couldnt tie the tracks to the persons.... Far better to watch then to particiapte in those... Quote

snoboy Posted November 23, 2005 Posted November 23, 2005 'K guys, this was the only way I could tidy it up... tomtom: With good reason. Greta: Uh oh, easy fellas. Ill admit that Im having a hard time judging the details in your photos, but with what Im looking at, Im not sure I would have anticipated those slides. What was the actual depth in that area? The scale is pretty ambiguous in these photos, and how much camera tilt did you add DoubleE: What was the actual depth in that area? At the bottom end of each slide, snow depth was maybe 2 feet before the slide and 5-6 feet after. So, getting caught in one of them almost certainty wouldn't have been fatal.. but still wouldn't have been much fun. Greta: I agree, probably not much fun. Thanks for the detail, though, that'l help with the interpretation of your pics. Are you still out for this weekend, E? Im hoping to get out Sat or Sun, assuming conditions improve as forcasted. As you were... Quote
Greta Posted November 23, 2005 Posted November 23, 2005 Did I miss something? What needed tidying? Quote
Double_E Posted November 24, 2005 Author Posted November 24, 2005 Yeah, I didn't understand what needed "tidying up" either. I think the non-Spray moderators just get bored, cuz they have so little to do... sorta like cops in a nice suburban neighborhood who hassle teenagers for skateboarding, or for hanging out on the wrong streetcorner. yeah, I'm going to the coast this weekend, Greta. And I think you're busy the next weekend? maybe the 2nd weekend in December then...? maybe Paradise/Muir? Quote
Greta Posted November 24, 2005 Posted November 24, 2005 Have fun on the coast. We'll catch up with eachother at some point. The season's only just beginning Quote
snoboy Posted November 24, 2005 Posted November 24, 2005 There were all sorts of *post deleted by* blahh blahh blahh... PS, I am a Spray mod too... Quote
