chucK Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 More for ya Jon.... "Late Sunday, U.S. troops surrounded and took control of an Interior Ministry building in Jadriyah following repeated allegations that Iraq security forces were illegally detaining and torturing people suspected of participating in the insurgency." link On one hand, this is positive news. It's a report coming out of Iraq that shows that the US forces are actively protecting the citizens of Iraq. Unfortunately, it also indicates that the government getting set up may be horribly corrupt and ruthless. Meaning...guess who gets to stay even longer? This just won't fit in anybody's current talking points! Quote
catbirdseat Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 The new Iraqi government is just doing things the way they've always been done in Iraq. It takes time to unlearn old ways. Quote
ScottP Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 "...unlearn old ways." Do you realize how ridiculous this sounds? Behaviors backed by thousands of years of culture are going to be unlearned by getting an ass kicking and then being told to change by another country that occupies yours for at most a decade? I am sorry, but that is utterly naive. Quote
sexual_chocolate Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 Oh yeah, and next you're gonna say his idea about the impoverished French immigrant rioters just starting up businesses is a silly idea too? Quote
catbirdseat Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 Now you're putting words in my mouth. Quote
Dechristo Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 "words" are better than alternatives Quote
KaskadskyjKozak Posted November 16, 2005 Posted November 16, 2005 Oh yeah, and next you're gonna say his idea about the impoverished French immigrant rioters just starting up businesses is a silly idea too? yeah, so impoverished... as compared to how they would be living in their respective ancestral homelands.
